How do you wash car in freezing cold temperatures? I live in a snowy climate
I'm from the midwest, and 4-5 months out of the year we are below freezing with snow...many times we are in the negative F numbers even (which for those outside of US it's -20 C and below). I wash my car 2x per month in the summer, but what can I do in the winter? I definitely will not be able to wash it for 4-5 months because I can't tolerate the cold temperatures with water...and water would just freeze.
Would you just take it to one of those auto washes and damage your paint? Last edited by photorph; 06-14-2021 at 05:35 AM.. |

Personally I would only consider a rinse with a wand at a self wash place, but would never take my car through the automatic wash (touchless or otherwise).
Other than ONR, when it hits 20-30 degrees F here in the Northeast (often) I wash my car with a warm water spigot I had installed for winter washing. I fill my bucket with the hottest water and rinse with warm. When we get the cold spells here (single digits/teens in F), I leave my car in the garage, even if caked with salt/dirt. |

It's not snowy here 4-5 months out of the year. Lol.
As others have mentioned, waterless wash is the way to go. If the car has gotten more than just a little salt on it, I'll go to a manual wash bay and spray it down on a warmer day. They typically have warm water that won't freeze right away. |

But I have used ONR in a bucket of warm water and washed my car inside the garage during winter and works well. |
