I've noticed a shift in recent weeks - the M2 seems to be getting a bit of the wrong kind of attention, I've been getting quite a few "rudeboys" trying it on, Golf GTi's, Seat Leon Cupra's, Audi A3 tdi's (lol) they're all beat up cars driven by young lads begging me for a race. Rather annoying...
That said, I still seem to be getting the same sort of attention as before too, people in petrol stations making comments etc.

Just exchanged mutual looks of admiration at an intersection with an Alfa Giulia driver. Don't believe it was the Quattrofoglio but it still looked very nice. Our heads turned at the same time. Pretty funny.

This is the one thing I'm worried about. In my CLS63 it was a constant annoyance from the very same cars.

But back then if I wanted to entertain...there wasn't much that I couldn't embarrass.

Luckily I'm a few years older now

I usually get noticed by a couple demographic groups (for the record, I have a LBB):

1) Fellow BMW folks in "small" coupes like the 2 series. Even passed a caravan of 2002's earlier this summer on the freeway. Thumbs up all around. E46 M3 drivers also usually appreciate what they have and there is always mutual gawking ...

2) Teenagers or Kids. Often hear shouts of "Blue Car!!"

Majority of the DC nouveau riche in M6/M4s could care less.

+1 on very elderly folks freaking out in parking garages b/c of the exhaust burbles.

Some guy told her that, no way she knew that on her own.

Yeah, lots of pleasant reactions for E46M owners. I think many of them see the M2 as their next BMW M car - that was certainly the case for me

When I drove the car home from the dealer, I had a guy in a 7-Series chase me down in rush-hour traffic. He gave up after a few miles when he figured out I wasn't going to stop just to chat with a stranger.

Went to an annual Greek festival here in Toronto and parked on the street, on that one day alone:
- just parked and looking at the parking signs to see if I was ok, lady on the street commented 'nice car!'
- got back to the car 4-5 hours later and saw a guy taking pictures of the front and back and we chatted for about 2 minutes, he said he had an E46 M3
- On the way out of the festival, which took like 30 min to get around the closed roads, 2 young couples commented on how nice it looked (the guys did anyways)

I've had a few other people ask me about the car...I'm surprised how many looks it gets because mine is BSM and IMO it's much less pronounced than the other colours.

Oh, I forgot to mention, some guy was crossing the street at 12am in the morning on Saturday with sunglasses on and he slowed down and tried to get in front of the moving car...think he was angry because he thought I was gunning the gas because of the exhaust note, but I actually just slowed down so I wouldn't run him over...so weird.

235/40 135/40 drivers seem to get an arse on too...

I've seen them, they look out the side of their face and pretend they haven't seen the car... it's a bright blue mega version of your car, you're going to bloody notice it haha!

Same as M4 drivers, they also seem to have an issue and pretend to not pay attention, it's so funny!

Have to be honest here. I get just as many if not more people noticing my E36 M3 which is very clean. Just in the last month I had someone in front of me stop, jump out of their car, flag me to a stop, and ask me if I was interested in selling it. Again, today in traffic someone asked me to roll down my window complimenting the car. Kind of crazy. My M2 just gets occasional thumbs ups.

No, she knows. She used to have a 3 series, moved to a 550, and now has a Maserati Quattroporte GTS. She knows enough...

Otherwise people notice two things with my car:
1. Color. LBB - especially women and children react.
2. Sound. I have catted Fabspeed downpipe. Comfort and Traction off
That LBB color is one of the most polarizing colors I have seen in a while. For some reason the M2 dimension and that color stands out more than the x4 m240I that I have seen. The Mineral grey although looks good definitely is muted on attention

Just take a peak over at the 2 forum or the F80/F82 forum. It's a M2 hate fest. The critical acclaim and praise the car has gotten really seems to get under their skin.

Usually goes something like this -

Jealousy and "What I've got is always better than what anyone else has, even if deep in my heart I know I made a bad decision and wish I had what they have" syndrome.

I quit criticizing what someone's already bought a long time ago. If they ask me before they buy, that's a different story.

Think only LBB draws attention for the m2, majority probably just from the color. Most people are unaware of a 2 series to begin with...

I've only seen enthusiasts drive up next to me. Got a thumbs up from an m235 the other day. Most days people who see that I have the new dealer tags ask me if I got an m....3?
