M2 vs 718s Drag Race
Featured on BIMMERPOST.com Also, there's another video of these cars going at it with the exact same results from a while back: |

These cars have too much low end torque which makes launching them very difficult. On a roll this would likely be a better race.
Wonder how a Cayman would have fared. Test drove the new 718 S Cayman before getting the F80 and that car is quick! |

The 718 are so quick and nimble, very much so an under the radar car. M2 looks good in black though

Looks like the M2 actually had a better launch.

Are these muscle cars?
NO -- so why continue to test them like they are?
If I wanted straight line speed I would buy an American V8. . . |

Because everyone appreciates a good drag race. This is where the BMW has the advantage, anyway. The mid-engine Porsche will easily out handle it.

And just imagine if the top wasn't down causing crazy amounts of drag.
They recently tested the two in the same comparison for MT, the 718S trapped 7 mph more. That is not even worth comparing they are so far from being in the same performance category. The 718 also beat it by 3 seconds per lap in the same comparison. http://www.motortrend.com/cars/fiat/...r-s-toyota-86/ |

Well, it's a 117 trap car...same as a 6MT M4. Imagine a race ending in a tie between the two caught of video.....Just shameful lol

Yeah but options (that don't all increase performance) make the P car's price go up pretty quickly - without knowing what options the Boxster had, it's hard to know how the price got that high. I think the standard 718S is in the ~67K range...just food for thought.

the current 718s is as fast around the ring as the gt4 if you upgrade tire width. It is a bargain in the p world. Porsche options can get bananas and press cars tend to have stupid shit on them.
I had a 991 manual, It broke all the time, had squeaks ext. I actually got a m235i to replace it (2014, no m2) and it is more fun to drive on track than the 991. I never miss the 991 (well mostly the Panamera loaner I was in half the time). I would not buy a first gen anything from Porsche, they are so over engineered like ruth Goldberg machines, fortune to maintain even if it is just the maintenance service. (oil change on 991 was a bumper off affair, and like 500 bills for the yearly service.) The run cost for the 718S on track will be high, P brakes, P wheel sizes, ext. m2 consumables are cheap, figure 1/3 of P world. Plus daily car no problem. As fast? no More fun? yes looking forward to lci on m2 (if b58), or if they come out with a xyz version, will upgrade then. |

Interesting.... as I'm considering trading my M2 in for the hardtop 718S. Only by the time I stopped ticking boxes the porka is £15k or 20% more expensive than my M2.
