Analysis Paralysis on Catless Downpipes
So...theres a lot of options for catless downpipes. However I only seem to find sound clips of VRSF (which I do love the sound of.) Do they all sound the same?
I'm looking to add a catless downpipe for better cooling at the track (as well as VRSF or BMS race intercooler.) I see VRSF has a cerakote option which might be helpful. Only other beneficial downpipe I see is CTS as they have the bracket. Other than those things is it safe to say they're equal?

I’s say equal yes..mad, cts, vrsf, etc..4” reduced to 3”…Sounds good and really not all that diff from cts sportcat except lil E smell….
If you have the means($$)…See about getting the midpipe fixed where the dp meets it..theres a reduction there to like 2.5” |

I don’t think you can - it’s twin turbo, so it would need to be modified from dual inlets to single where the downpipe meets the midpipe.
I considered it when I was looking for a 3.5” off the shelf solution, but I just went with the AWE 3” in the end. |

will you make a race midpipe for us? 4" dp to 3.5" midpipe with resonator options? Could be adapted to m240, m235, m2c's...
similar to this? https://www.2addicts.com/forums/show...hlight=exhaust Or modified f8x kit? |

A modular modpipe could fit basically any F2/3/8 with minimal changes - just added length for the F3x - and muffler combinations for those who want single, dual or anything else. Motordyne did basically the same thing with their XYZ pipe, you would think other after market companies would try the same. |

I would get one with the bracket. I used one without it and it made some strange noises which I would assume was it rubbing somewhere and it did not sound as smooth as the one with brackets.
I’m not sure why exactly. The one without brackets had a raspier sound and the one with brackets had more spool. The Wagner downpipe has brackets and doesn’t cost much more than the alternatives.

I inquired about it a while back, and they were willing to do it if they a one off - they were not, they wanted a minimum buy in. But I figure you have the support here on the M2 forum and maybe a few other guys to at least get their downpipe. https://f30.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1559266 And of course the sound of the full 3.5" https://f30.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1040514

Not sure how anyone could like the sound of catless over catted, but to each their own. You're not going to get any different sound from any of the cattless versions, they're all going to be bright, raspy and nasty. lol

Don’t really care how it sounds, but I’ve listened to enough clips to disagree, catless sounds better. Plus this is mainly for keeping engine bay cool at track and would be waste to just destroy a nice cat like Wagner or fabspeed comes with

and yes, an open downpipe sounds good/fine and not much different than a 200 cell version. adding a few resonators into the system will be good too. |
