Has anyone had confirmation that the belts will not be standard and more importantly only available in Q4? I'm tempted to delay mine because I like it!

I've also heard the rumor that the 2018 M2 will be getting an updated engine.

This rumor comes from someone I trust very much that often has the inside track on info like this as he is part of the auto industry.

Now..I just wonder if BMW will offer better lease deals for 2017 M2's as December hits and the 2018 M2's arrive. That's my hope at least.

Same engine, no lease deals.

Updated engine! Me thinks you're joking. Unless your trusted friend is talking about the M2CS and then he'd be correct. But keep that to yourself as no one else knows

Guys, the N55 cannot be built beyond mid 18 as it's certification for emission compliance ends then. I believe this is when the CS will be released as a replacement.

Ah ok. I didn't realise it was as cut and dry as that. Appreciate the knowledge.

So do you think they'll stop M2 production completely and switch to the CS, or will they start putting the B58 in the vanilla M2?

But the CS is supposed to come with a high price premium so it wouldn't be a direct replacement.

Yeah not sure about that line of thinking. By that regard the B58 will need to replace the current model mid 2018. But in all likelihood they will extend the emissions certificate. Just ask Subaru how that's done with their EJ257

That's what the guy said last year on the 2ertalk.de forum. That starting in March 2018 the M2 CS with the S55 engine would be released and would replace the regular M2.Most people don't think that is going to happen.Ynguldyn said in the upcoming BMW model thread that the M2 CS is going to be a MY19 model. So that means that it will be an early release in March 2018.I asked him if the regular M2 will also change to the 2019 model year in March 2018 but he never replied to my post.

Can't imagine production costs to be a great deal different between engines. Appreciate development costs come into it, but suspect the price will be set my marketing concerns rather than unit cost variations.

Well if you needed to replace an N55 right now and a S55 right now what does BMW charge? I would bummed for sure to pay slightly less and get the N55 rather than a detuned S55.

I guess one could argue they couldn't raise the price that much and still compete well with the Audi RS cars.

Maybe silver lining is N55 is more reliable? Hmm.

I am no expert but I don't think the S55 engine would increase the price that much.My guess would be about $5000 US.

The beauty of the N55 in the M2 is that it has such an amazing sounding exhaust. It sounds way better than the S55 exhaust. It will be interesting to see if BMW can improve the sound of the S55 exhaust in the M2 CS.

Going to my dealer this Saturday to talk about ordering a 2018 model. Do you guys think it's worth waiting for as opposed to picking up a 2017? I'm in no hurry. TIA

I don't know. But my guess would be no because there is no way they will develop an engine specific for the M2 for 1-2 years only. Don't forget M2 is relatively low volume too. The X3 M40i does use the same engine but I'm pretty sure the new model X3 comes out next year so again there is no longer a need for it.
