Break-in service done, now to the track! (Los Angeles)
I'm doing my break-in service tomorrow, and I want to take my car to the track for the first time (for me and the car) tomorrow or this weekend!
Where in Los Angeles do I do this, and how much will it cost, and how to I go about it? |

Main source for track days would be: https://www.motorsportreg.com/
I know Speed District and Speed Ventures run stuff near LA, mostly at Auto Club speedway and Willow Springs (maybe buttonwillow as well). I wouldn't recommend against going straight to track days, but one of the two (Speed District/Speed Ventures) also runs unlimited run autocross at AutoClub which might be a good start before leaping into track days. |

Streets of Willow gets my vote, it's the smaller track at the Willow Springs compound in Rosamond, CA, about an hour north of LA via the 14.
A track school would be great. Streets is a very technical course that helps hone driver skills. Doing autocross beforehand isn't a bad idea as well, as mentioned above. |

What do you guys think of SCCA events? In particular for novices. They run afternoon/evening events throughout the country where you do three 20 min sessions for 150. I'm curious if anyone has done these.

I don't know know about those events but this is the way I look at it. You get what you pay for and the cheaper the price, the cheaper the cars that will show up. For this reason, I would never recommend NASA events for beginners. I did it. It was a sh*tshow. I learned. Find an HOD event as a beginner (BMW CCA is good too but they probably don't have very many events)

I highly recommend your first time or two be with an instructor. My first track day was with NASA So cal, ran in the beginners group with an instructor and I didn't learn much. I went a second time with the beginners group and the second instructor was a lot better. Luck of the draw.
I stopped running with NASA and just stick with Speed Ventures. The yearly fee wasn't worth it for how I'm stuck to their event calendar. I mainly run with speed ventures, I'll be there for the Auto Club speedway event on June 10 weekend. Speed ventures has a beginners group that you can get an instructor to ride along with you |

Auto club in roval configuration or CW Chuckwalla would be my go to for beginners. Button willow is also fairly unforgiving too. |
