Don't buy it

Moreover as far as driving dynamics is concerned both tires are on the same performance level.

The Contis on these cars are years old tire technology, and were never rated by anybody as the equivalant of the Pilot Sport 2, let alone the MPPS.

My guess is that these saved BMW quite a bit of money, per car, at least relative to their margins on the car. That may well be the driver here.

Without quoting doug999, that m group quote is the biggest load of crap I've ever heard. How can someone say that with a straight face? Seriously.

Here is what my BMW dealer CA said to me about the Contis: "The Contis are crap."

I guess the correct word hasn't gotten down all the way through the ranks

Doesn't save them much if anything at wholesale levels and at the M2 and M3/4 production levels its not much money. its all about supply and the PSS has had supply issues for at least a year. A buddy of mine waited 6 months for replacement PSS for his 911.

For those wondering, the MY17 split is 60% MPSS / 40% dumpster fire fuel

I just got back from the Detroit auto show and Michelin had the pilot sport 4S on display so I took some pics for you guys. The rep I was talking to said the tire is better than the super sport. It has some sport cup 2 tire tech in it. The sidewall is nice to.

Thank you!

While everyone else complains about whether they got a free "iPhone 6 "'or a free " galaxy 6" along with their M2... the next big thing is already on the way.

The P4S will slay the SS just like the SS slayed the Pilot Sport five years ago. 1M owners couldn't burn through their Pilot Sports fast enough to mount the new, grippier Michelin pilot supersport which provided FAR better traction at the rear .. ... it's no secret that the M2 and M3/M4 all definitely can use a tire that allows the car to get more mechanical grip to the road...

Yah, I didn't think there would be a big difference until I spoke to the Michelin rep for a while.

I'm picking up my car this week, does is basically mean I'm almost guaranteed to get the Contis? Or is here a slight chance for Mpss?

Total crapshoot, split right now for MY17 is 58% MPSS / 42% Conti.

It would seem that more people are getting the Conti's now - but that's just a feeling. My first M2 came with PSS, the 2nd with Conti - but my dealer rocks so they swapped them out for the PSS. Which BTW was just ranked #1 by Consumer Reports. Not bad for a 5 year old tire

and.. I have yet to see anyone get the Contis and say they didn't like them or they handled like crap.... and... I've yet to find a review on them (except one from 5 years ago where it came in 3rd). At the end of the day, it is a 10 year old tire and I would LOVE someone like C&D to do a comparison between it and the PSS.

Why don't you have the dealer go check?
