Thanks TR....put these on and tracked them with both 275 square slicks ( with 10mm front spacers) and 265 square RE71s with no spacers. Car felt great and these wheels are a deal....no M tax!!

So I just got back from Barber. I put AD08s on my stock wheels in original sizes, then switched to my TR 18s with RE71s in 265 square and they were 4 seconds faster!! You guys really need to try this set up.

Hey Guys, new guy on the block.

First I would like to thank Keith and Tire Rack for a great service. Keith was very quick to respond to me and assisted me in ordering the wheels. I placed my order with him and in less than 24 hours I had my wheels.(Indy 500's mounted and balanced with TPMS)

I live in SoCal and the wheels apparently shipped from Las Vegas roughly for those wondering. I have a Stock LBB M2.
I purchased the Grey colors rims with Firestone Indy 500 265/35/18. These together was a budget vs function decision. Together with TR wheels and tires, it helps create a good base line.

I put 10mm Macht Schnell Spacers for front wheels, rears have no spacers. I have driven these on the street, about 300 miles and have had no problems. In the future I will be doing a track session.

The sizes you asked about:
Front - 245/35-18 = 24.7"
Rear - 275/35-18 = 25.6"

I do not see a problem with these sizes fitting on the car, although it will throw off your speedometer and the car will ride stiffer with the lower profile.

The best staggered 18" sizes would be either:
Front - 245/40-18 = 25.7"
Rear - 265/40-18 = 26.3"
(options such as the Pirelli Trofeo R, RE-11, Hankook RS-3, Yoko AD08R)

or

Front - 245/40-18 = 25.7"
Rear - 275/40-18 = 26.6"
(options such as Bridgestone RE-11, Nexen N FERA SUR4)
Hey Keith,

Considering a set of these vs the APEX due to cost, but quick question on tire size. These will be going on an M2 with MP suspension (~0.5-1" lowering, no camber plates).

I used to run 275/35/18 square on my E46 M3 - super fun and beyond fantastic in terms of grip level. This is probably preferable to me except I got the 275/35 RE71R last year and found it runs extremely wide.

The 265 width seems to be better aligned to the 9.5" width wheel, at least for the RE71R's. But I can't help to think the 265/35/18 is too short for the car in the photos so far. Given your specs above, would it be better to do 265/40/18 square, since it is the same OD as the OE 19" tire? I understand there is a difference in sidewall stiffness, but I feel like it would fit the car better.

The other wrinkle is that I am considering the Hankook RS4 due to my negative experiences with RE71R wear...if those run narrower than the Bridgestone...I might just have to go 275/35

Thanks in advance

Thank you for reaching out.
265/40/18 = 26.3" overall diameter. This matches the OD of the 19" OE rear tires, but it is too tall for the front. The 245/35/19 (OE front size) = 25.7" overall diameter. We would not be able to recommend or guarantee 265/40/18 for the front of the car.
The average 265/35/18 = 25.3" overall diameter, which is why we recommend this size.

It looks like the R-S4 tends to run a little short and wide. Here are the specs for comparison:
Hankook Ventus R-S4:
265/35/18 - 25.1" OD - 11.0" section width - 9.8" tread width
275/35/18 - 25.4" OD - 11.2" section width - 10.2" tread width

Bridgestone Potenza RE-71R:
265/35/18 - 25.3" OD - 10.7" section width - 9.7" tread width
275/35/18 - 25.6" OD - 10.9" section width - 10.0" tread width

Please let me know if I can help further.
Thanks!

Something seems weird.
I ordered 265/35/18 AD08R to put on my TR C4 wheels and Keith's answer above prompted me to look at the specs in more details.
To my surprise, ad08r 265/35/18 tread width stands at 10.3" which is wider then 275/35 tread width on the RS4 and Re-71r based on tirerack information.
Can that be or is it an error on the website?

If this is true does that mean that 265/35/18 AD08R may rub where other tires with the same size won't?

Thank you for bringing this up. Now we are getting technical.

The tread width can vary depending on how round the tire section.
Flat section with the square shoulders will measure wider than a rounded section with rounder shoulders.
The RE-71R is a rounder section profile than the Yokohama which is very square.

Tread width is not the concern when it comes to clearance issues on most cars.
Section width is what we need to keep an eye on.

The 265/35/18 Yoko AD08R will clear without a problem with a 10.6" section width. The RE-71R is actually .1" wider at section width.

Now, looking at all the specs, the Hankook R-S4 does run very wide at the section width. With the R-S4, depending on where that 11” section is measured become critical.
If the 11” occurs at the rim edge protector, it most likely will require a 3-5mm spacer for proper clearance.
If the 11” occurs way up at or near the shoulder, it might clear the strut and have the right clearance because the strut is angled away from the tire…. As in gaining clearance as you go up. It is possible the 11" section width will clear on the 265/35/18 R-S4, but it is going to be very close

When stepping up to a 275/35/18, you are gaining section width and overall diameter, which is why I recommend a 3-5mm spacer with any of the 275/35/18 tires.

Thanks again!

Thank you Keith. Glad to hear I won't have clearance issues with the AD08R.
I guess I am gladely surprised to see that AD08R has a larger contact patch then RS4 or Re-71r.

Slightly off topic but anybody know if you can fit a BMW center cap on the C4. Looking at these for my E90 and just wondering.

265/35/18 would be the best tire size for a square track package.

Will confirm weight once the first shipment comes in.
1 Piece low-pressure cast
$165 each

Will be available in black or light grey.

Black - http://www.tirerack.com/wheels/Wheel...b=wheels&a=BS4
Light Grey - http://www.tirerack.com/wheels/Wheel...b=wheels&a=BS4

This is a wheel Tirerack is having specifically built for M2 track packages, which is why we are able to keep the price so low.

Feel free to email me directly at Keith@tirerack.com if you have any questions or would like to place an order.
Keith - I need some help with an order. I also need help with tire selection for track days. I sent you an email. Thanks in advance.

Keith, does TRM have a wheel in same width and offset but in 17" diameter? Looking for something to mount a 255/40-17 on my Z.

Unfortunately, I have not heard too much about the RS-4 yet as it just got released this month. Hopefully will hear more in the upcoming weeks.
Keith - do you have any info or data on the RS-4s yet?

Rich,
We just wrapped up the test last week. Currently the team is writing up the report, so we should have the complete test results soon. I will be sure to add that report to this thread ASAP.

Thanks!
