Soon to be M2 Owner, Question about MyBMW
Greetings everyone! I'm a long time lurker, first time poster. My order went in today, was told I'm a build week 38 but could possibly be sooner.
[2018 LBB, 6MT, Exec Package, Apple Carplay, SS pedals] Question for folks: How long before my production number/order shows up in the MyBMW website? I tried entering it but it wouldn't recognize. OT Rant: I was actually cross shopping this car with a Civic Type R (I've been an M and a Type R fan since forever), but I got tired of waiting for the insane markups to come down. I can afford the markups, but it goes against my principles so I refuse to pay it. Hopefully down the line, I can acquire one at MSRP once the hype dies down. Previous Rides: '11 370Z, '05 M3, '93 RX-7, '00 Civic Si |

In years past, it would work with production number - but that doesn't seem to be the case at the moment - gotta have the VIN. |

Mybmw lagged quite a bit from the actual status of my car so I got in the habit of calling the genius. Once it was on the ship I tracked the ship like a psycho and then my dealer was great for the last day or so as the GM sent me an email at 4:30 in the morning as my car was going on the truck and told me I would get my car that day. Point is if your OCD like I was you will get the best information working all of the sources.

Thanks everyone. My status was already 111 on the printout the dealer gave me. I guess I'll have to wait until it enters 150 and I get a VIN.

Only the production number worked for me, right up to the time the car was delivered. My CA was the best source of the most accurate information; MyBMW, BMW Genius and the BMW toll-free line usually weren't as up-to-date and sometimes were just wrong, like the time one of them told me my car had been on a ship for 3 days - before it was even built. YMMV.

Another indicator of how bad their web admins are is the configurator on bmwusa.com is still for MY17.
<rant> It's rather sad really, we've seen tons of misprints on this car from launch. From the what comes with an M car which stated CF roof and M mirrors to the open vs closed deck misprint, to the recent piano black console trim (but cars are coming with chrome). They really need to rein this shit in, it's embarrassing. </rant> |
