Yeah, I know it's a hot take.
I had a 992 Carrera S. I like the M2 Competition better. The Carrera S is a quick car, but it has a very linear throttle and there is a throttle delay which makes it feel a little less responsive. In absolute terms, the M2C actually feels like it has more torque. Porsches with PDK and Sport chrono have very good 1/4 mile and 0-60 times because of the excellent launch control algorithm that Porsche uses. But on a roll - ie real world driving - or even just aggressively throttling the car from a stop, the car subjectively feels slower than an M2. Carreras have great steering, handling and precision. That's the Porsche thing, but I think the car really only comes alive in higher trim levels. It's the opposite of the M2 - the Carrera almost feels underpowered for its chassis. Conversely, the 992TTS feels much more alive in that respect. tl;dr: the M2C is just more fun to drive. I assume the same or more for the M2CS. 992s are also physically big feeling cars. I've gone "backwards" to a 991.2 GT3 Touring and the smaller and more intimate feel of the older car is much more obvious to me now. |

I almost went from an M2C to a 992, but when I sat in one I was like way too big. I now have a 2022 Cayman GTS 4.0 manual and in terms of fun on the streets, my M2C was definitely more fun in terms of handling (the cayman has such high limits that it just feels less playful), but the cayman's naturally aspirated engine is much more engaging and connected with instant response and a vicscerality to the sound and the manual is better, and for me those factors trump the playful handling. but if the M2C has one of those classic naturally aspirated Bmw sixes with 350HP ish, I would pick the M2C over the GTS 4.0 as the more fun road car. |

The goofy torque monster M2 is a lot of fun too - not to say it isn’t a serious car. The M2c has real capability, but the personality of the car is totally different than Porsche, which is as serious as a heart attack. I’m happy having both - it’s nice to go back and forth because the approach to driving is so different. That said, if I was forced to choose between the two - it’s NA/manual all day long. |

I would take both; M2CS and the 992. Hands down 992 is beautiful.
There's a M2CS available on Carvana for $79,590.00..... Cheers

I had the opportunity to test drive a base 992 and a Taycan 4S a couple days ago. I preferred the Taycan. The 992 handles beautifully but it’s grown bigger and consequently has lost that unique feeling of hearing the engine roar behind you that was such a crucial part of the 911 experience. I doubt that the 992S is very different.
The Taycan disguises its weight well at 60mph on a winding back road. I’m sure it’s a different story on track. But it rides much better and would be a nicer DD than the 992, which I felt rode about as harshly as the F87 M2C. In some ways the 992 (and the G87, I suspect) feels like a car that has been turned into such a digital experience that the engineers wanted it to be basically an EV even though it has an ICE. Just look at the MT gearing issues that are being reported with the G87, which seems to fit better with the auto tranny. The beauty of the F87 was that it incorporated some of the niceties of newer tech while still retaining that analog feel that has all but disappeared in newer cars, even those that are supposedly geared towards enthusiasts. Ultimately I think I’ll continue to enjoy my M2C for a while and then have it become my weekend car (with maybe a 997 in the garage as well) and have the Taycan as a daily. At least the digital feel makes sense in an EV. |
