It's different configurations for different markets,
With the UK you get a standard spec and virtually everything else is an option unlike the US where you get the choice of a couple of "packs" which covers everything.

One of the reasons why the M2 is seen as good value in the US but borders on the mundane to pretty crap over here in the UK for what it is

The pre First batch of M2s until MY17 are going to be less wanted so I managed o get a great deal on a brand new M2 with estimated shipping date of October 17 and LCI. I will only go with the MPE exhaust and grill this time as I'm getting mineral grey. I have also spec hthis one as light as I could compared to my old M2

Harmon Kardon (same as before) I like my music
Manual seats - lumbar support only (probably a 15kg saving)
Bluetooth phone prep (same)
Manual (30kg saving)
No reverse camera ( 2kg)
Sun protection and exterior folding mirrors (same)

That's it really, nice and simple drivers car....
The money you lose getting out and back into a car is insane. You pay retail twice and get wholesale once. Better off getting a manual used, but even then, hardly worth it. Get on a list for a cs if you can, but I guess that ship already sailed.

So no sunroof? Odd, not that I like them.

In Australia we have two models

M2 Pure which is manual box only, manual seats, hifi loudspeaker, reverse camera, pro nav/connected drive etc and can only be optioned with metallic, tint, alarm, through-load and/or sunroof

M2 - standard with DCT, manual a no cost option, plus HK sound, alarm, adaptive headlights, comfort access, electric seats. Tint, metallic and sunroof still optional.

Anyway, I couldn't get any sensible information on the MY18 changes, nor whether there would be an LCI (dealers said they had no knowledge) and I'm likely to keep the car for several years so am not waiting any longer than necessary.

Correct. MY2016 and MY2017 did not offer a sunroof option (in the US Market).

Very odd, and I've yet to hear a plausible explanation. -scr

Was there a difference between 2016 and 2017? I only recently found out that there was a 2016 model, I always thought it was considered the "2017 M2" haha.

This is the only thing that bums me out about my '17. Would have loved a sunroof.

I suspect that BMW NA didn't anticipate USA customers wanting a sunroof, therefore left it off of the options list. It was a bad decision.

Not BMW NA. BMW USA because sunroof is an option in Canada for 2017 but wasn't for 2016. Thanks BMW Canada although I'd have preferred a carbon fiber roof. As for our options list it's as simple as it gets.
1 Paint
2 DCT
3 Smartphone connectivity package
4 Sunroof
5 M performance exhaust
6 Carbon bits. Some dealer installed some port installed

I wish the manufacturers would stop trying to guess what their prospective clients would like. What the hell's wrong in having a standard car on which anyone, wherever they live in the world, can select from the same options list and spec their car exactly the way they want ? And that goes for M-performance bits too. Where is the sense, in today's world which is supposed to be aiming for responsible use of the earth's resources, in forcing purchasers of, for example, an MPE, to have to ditch their original exhaust ? So much better to reduce the MPE exhaust price and allow one to specify it on the new car. That would be one less original exhaust system manufactured and a considerable cost saving to all concerned. The same goes for steering wheels, spoilers, wheels... What a waste.

M4/M3 LCI Front lights, can`t see why they would not fit these to the M2 SOON !

I always look at stuff like this as part of the way they differentiate models from each other, and attempt to make their whole car lineup generate interest from a customer. So for example a customer might want an M2 and a sunroof but you can't get that option, so maybe they would consider going up to an M4 instead? Or option out a 2 series....

It's like the fact that the throttle blip on the manual can't be turned off unless the traction control is all turned off. Why? Perhaps because customers might then consider an M4 instead?

I mean I don't know why BMW picks what features and leaves some out, but I always assume it's a marketing / business reason with stuff like this. They must know that people would WANT these options on an M2.

What I really do not get about BMW NA's current thoughts on an M2 sunroof is that it is a free delete option on the 240 and a $1050 option on the 230. The M2 has the same roof and headliner as the other 2 series and I am pretty confident the wiring harness already has connections where the sunroof switch goes. The absence of the sunroof is pure marketing or as they state, this is what "makes the M2 more pure (no sunroof)".
Please BMW NA, let me chose how "pure" I want my car to be.
FYI #2 for MY2018 M2

The only guarantee (almost) to waiting are new headlights and taillights.

I actually had a similar option. I was offered a March build, but I said I will wait for the 2018.

So its back on you, want to wait xx more months for a MY2018, or take the one coming.

No compulsory packages in the UK. You can build a (relatively) stripped out car if you want it that way.
I have a US M2 on order. I wish I could get cloth seats instead of leather.

Read this post, do a search on sunroof on the M2 forum, USA is only country that does not offer a sunroof even as an option, the people I talked to said they listen to their customers so the more that email customer relations, maybe we will get it by EOP in 2020, write them

http://f87.bimmerpost.com/forums/sho...2&postcount=11

Beginning of thread, I have been wanting one, to be honest not 25% max of these cars will be tracked and the sunroof is insignificant unless you are doing some serious racing but BMWNA will not listen to their customers, they are available in every country you visit on bmw.com. The want it to be a purist car because sunroof adds weight, raises center of gravity and reduces headroom, I would not ever race or track it like others on this forum so its a mute point

Make it an option BMWNA, not standard so everyone can get what they want, I think every EXX m3 and F8X M3/M4 plus M5, M6 and all SAV models had a sunroof, I think the department who handles comsumers did not want a sunroof on the M2.

It is just a few people in marketing making decisions for everyone, I hope they read the emails people have read these emails and have change of heart. It is a deal breaker for me, I do not want it standard, I want it as an option I have to pay for, I think a lot of people understand me to mean make it standard, that is not the case, just search on my ID. One guy wanted to keep the 1st one and buy one later off a dealer to track, why not track this first one

I am taking delivery of my MY2017 in May and have been debating letting my allocation slot go in favor or waiting for a MY2018. I visited a larger dealer today (not my dealer) who told me they have 16 allocations this year that are all sold of course with 22 on the waiting list. He said he may be getting two more allocations but they will be well over MSRP. He said if an order went in today that the wait would be 1.5 years. My dealer (the largest in Greater Toronto) told me a similar story recently. Long story short: I'm taking my MY2017 in May no questions asked.

I delayed my build for the LCI, I'm in no particular rush though and allocations here seem to be easier to get than other parts of the world; I ordered mine late October and got an early Feb build.
