Good luck with that idea. Production starts in November and all the people who have had their deposit down, some of which we're placed last year will receive their cars in March if they are lucky.

But then you'd be able to drive on Spa instead of watching it from the stands. I'd so dearly love to see Eau Rouge from the cockpit of an M2

That would really be great. I'm sure many people would love to see that.

Very true, I'm able to get full access pit passes through connections at Eurosport for the 6 hours of Spa, which would be a great experience, but everything else that comes with the group delivery would be wonderful as well. Decisions decisions.

I called my local dealer to inquire about a pull ahead for my wifes 535i expiring in March 2016. Likely will replace with an x5. Also asked about the list for the M2 and apparently I am now #1. Half of me did not believe it considering how early some of you guys were on this, and I had him check around to confirm.

Today is a good day!

My dealer informed me that I can have one of the two cars coming. They got offered two production slots out of the six they asked for. They expect mine to arrive as one of the earliest around March/April. The factory is like 2,5 hrs from me so I might as well pick it up there

You have great prices in the U.S. but a lot of dealers seem to be morons and sell over MSRP and require money just to be on a waiting list.

I'm #1 at my dealer (without being forced to pay) and it will be around 10% discount from the start.

No one is forced. If anyone is a moron, it's the guy who agrees to a non-refundable deposit and 10% above MSRP. Some people have to be the cool kid on the block before everyone else and end up selling the car six months into ownership, anyway.

But really, I mean it isn't my money, so whoever wants to overpay is free to do so. The real question is, if someone else goes to your dealer and says they will pay $5k over MSRP, do you think you'll still get the car?

Sure, it goes both ways. I also find it strange that people really pay the premium, just stop and the prices will be at the suggested price at least.

Saw your edit... Yes, my place is secured so no one can outbid me.

Supply and demand. This is why I can wait until 2017 when my M235i is ending its lease... I see no reason to pay more for an M2 than I would a brand new M3.

Are you sure about that? I thought M Division is still fighting to keep the next gen 2 series to be RWD, even though the next gen 1 series sedan will be FWD/AWD.

Last info from BMW is more or less that they're still evaluating. If they can build a competitive (in terms of interior space etc.) 1- and 2-series on the RWD platform, they will do it. Otherwise they may go FWD/AWD.

I don't think they'll build a FWD 1-series and a RWD 2-series since that would mean building two completely separate cars. Right now, the 1-series and 2-series are pretty much the same except for the read half of the body shell and some minor details.

The next generation cars are completely different as they are modular. Either way, I'm not going to sit around amd find out. I will get either the M2 or M3 from this generation.

M3 ED next August, let's do this! You know damned well you'll appreciate the additional performance of the S55 motor, over the long haul, since you plan on keeping the car for a while...

If they made an M3 Touring, absolutely. It would have been a done deal

I'm honestly not looking for all out power. The E36 has taught me that you don't need all that much power to have fun (nor do I need a lot of creature comfort). I took both M's to Cars and Coffee last Saturday, and my friend told me: E92 was a blast with the exhaust that sounded great, but the E36 was way more fun to drive at sane speeds.

Besides, I think the M2 will have more than enough power on its own. With just a bit of modding, it'll have no problem beating my E92 M3 with full catless exhaust and stage 2 tune. And that car is borderline unusable on the streets (if you want to keep a clean driving record).

I still think the Cayman GTS is the right car for you Bemo

Sadly, I think I'm going to let my M dreams go for now. The M2 would have replaced my current daily driver. And with the travel I do for work, it would require me buying a "snow car" for the winter. I can just imagine me landing at the airport an hour away from home and realizing that an unexpected dusting of the white stuff has stranded me 0 even with snow tires. I did test an M235, and whereas it's not an M2, it's enough car for me right now.

On the plus side...anyone interested in my #1 spot on the allocation list in central Connecticut?

I just received email confirmation with a picture of a receipt of $1,000 that was charged to my credit card.

I'm number 5 on the list. Sales guy said I will have no problem getting one. This dealer is a high volume M dealer so I am sure they get more M allocations than other dealerships.

Cannot wait!
