When did dealerships in the US start taking deposits for the M2?

My wife's just been offered the first RS3 in Texas, if she wants to put a deposit down. So their wait list is... 0, about 3 months before the model releases!

Considering this is seen as a direct competitor to the M2, I'm surprised that demand isn't already stronger

Fair point, I phrased it badly.

Also, you try telling her that!

(I'm waiting for my M2, it should get here in the summer)

I like my testicles.

And breathing.

So I just patiently explain to her that mine is better!

I put my deposit in sometime in Feb, 2016. And I was #24 on the list at that point.

I think it's pretty rare to be on a list for an Audi.

I called the day the car was announced and shown during the press conference in October of 2015 and most dealers I spoke to already had a couple of folks on their lists. All took deposits if I was willing to put them down. I ended up going on a couple of lists but got a car from the one dealer I called that didn't do a list at all so I got their second car.

Searching, I found an open allocation ~1500 miles away in November 2016 and had it shipped arriving in January 2017. Although I strongly prefer the M2 (6 speed manual), get her on the Audi waitlist. She must have some car enthusiast blood in her to go after a RS3! It's always a good thing when your spouse is on board with purchasing exciting vehicles!

I placed a deposit in September 2015 (1 month before the announcement) and there were already 4 people on the waiting list.

Same as above. Placed a deposit end of October 2015 and was #4 on the list. Took delivery exactly one year later to the day in October 2016. Wait time should be significantly shorter now though.

I put a deposit down in the summer of 2015 and was #1 on my dealers list. Took delivery May 6, 2016.

Not really...it's still in the 10-12 month range if you get in line now.
