M2, where have you gone?

It seemed like there was a steady stream of leaks and updates on the M2 at the start of the year. Now, nothing...

Is this because BMW wants the focus to be on the M3/4? I need some additional M2 details!

The car is still a ways off. Expect droughts of information along the way.

I check everyday to see what's up. I just like to know what this car is made of before making a decision on a M4.

Lighter , smaller , shorter, quicker , less expensive. Think that pretty much sums up the difference

I was on the same boat but i know my answer now.

I have test driven an M4 DCT.

The engine is fantastic really really awesome. But the first i noticed when driving away it has no nimbleness like the 1M Coupe. The M4 does not feel like it is 1500kg. It s in my eyes closer in feel to an M5/M6 then an 1M coupe.

When i first drove a 1M coupe i was convinced to buy one instantly. The M4 has not convinced me so fast. Is it worth to buy alone for the engine? For me no. I rather have an agile car. My quess is that the wheelbase of the M4 kills of all the fun which i am looking for in a car.

The perfect companion for an 1M coupe is an M3. I really see no point at all to use an M4 as a trackday car in my case. To use a 4 door M3 as a daily drive oh yess!!! It s much more fun then an M5 for sure.

I just have to wait for an M2 then. All i hope for is that bmw keeps the wheelbase as short as possible and make it lighter then the 1M coupe.

The long wait begins but after driving the M4 i know now you just don t get bored driving the 1M coupe. What a Car it is.

Interesting comments Advevo, the wait for the M2 is killing me so I had turned my attention back to the M3 / 4, but after hearing your impression of the M4 its confirmed my suspicion.

I still intend to test an M3, IMO the M3 looks tougher and with better proportions, but its the M2 we all wait for.

M2 has gone to work out and shed some pounds. With the launch some 18 months away I wouldn't expect even monthly updates just timely releases and prototype spies. So far we've seen a Ring test mule and then the quad exhaust test mule. Lots still to do and the endless fine tuning.

I really hope the M2 gets the Carbon Fiber Reinforced Plastic Roof. The 1M didn't get it so uncertain if they will put it on the M2. Even though the weight savings is not a whole lot we need to get all the savings we can get.

18 months???? NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! I thought it would be released late summer of 2015 as a 2016 model.

Like some of you guys, I had my heart set on an M4. For the most part I love the M4 (and M3) but I cant get past the physical size of the car... it's just too big. I already have a car that I think is too big (my F30) so why would I replace it with a car that is equally as long but wider???

I love the reviews of the M235i and every time I read another one, I lust for the M2.

I just hope I can wait 18 months or more. My lease is up in 15 months...

If you're under the max miles for the length of your lease, can't you just pay month to month until the M2 comes out?

Maybe. The problem is I'm WAY over on miles. I'll figure it out. I'll just have to drive my Subaru for a few months. The M2 will be worth the wait.

BMW M2 (2015) spied on road - and in Gran Turismo

By Tim Pollard

Spy shots

08 July 2014 07:00

BMW is testing its new M2 high-performance coupe - on road and in the virtual reality world of Gran Turismo computer games. Sort of.

Our photographers snapped these spy photos of the new 2015 BMW M2 on manoeuvres in Germany, and it's a fascinating juxtaposition alongside the raciest 2-series from Gran Turismo 5.

BMW M2 vs BMW Vision Gran Turismo

The M2 is a new badge for M-kind, carrying on where the BMW 1 M Coupe left off.

Gran Turismo has become a major marketing channel for car makers and for the game's 15th anniversary, it has commissioned a string of virtual racers from brands as diverse as Aston Martin, Mercedes-Benz and now BMW.

It's a reflection of the times in which we live that a manufacturing giant such as BMW now teases future product on gaming consoles, in an attempt to drum up early interest in its wares.

BMW M2 (2015): what we know

The new, roadgoing BMW M2 will borrow the 3.0-litre straight six from the M235i; blown by a single turbocharger, power is tipped to swell from 322bhp to some 355bhp.

Marking out the M2's more aggressive stance is a track considerably stretched at both axles, making room for the bigger boots required to keep swollen horsepower and torque figures in check.

It's pretty easy to spot the blistered wheelarches in our BMW M2 spy pictures. It's all part of a discrete makeover with all the hallmarks of M division: subtle restraint and polish, mixed with just enough menace in those gaping air intakes and lowered aero addenda so that those in the know know...

Expect to see the BMW M2 in showrooms in 2015, priced from around £40,000.

BMW Vision Gran Turismo

The gamers' BMW 2-series is a more extreme version of the 2-series dressed in M tricolor colours. BMW and Polyphony, the makers of Gran Turismo, have plundered the history books, nicking the BMW roundel on the C-pillar from the M1, the Batmobile's paint scheme and the 3.0 CSL's exaggerated 'Hofmeister kink'.

In the Playstation world, the go-faster BMW 2-series has a similar-sounding 3.0-litre straight six, but turbocharged here to 542bhp. Combined with an 1180kg kerbweight, it's outrageously fast. On your sofa, at least.

Cool! I hope they figure out something a bit nicer for the back end. Looks a bit haphazard on the M235i in my opinion. Would be great to see a lower roof line too.

Quicker? I'd be surprised. Personally, I doubt they'll allow it to be faster than an M3/4 (think Cayman vs 911). More fun, absolutely.

If they make this car as good as it can be (not necessarily talking about outright power, but more weight savings), it would be hard for me to resist because even with camo, it already looks amazing.

Seen here testing with the current F8x M3/M4 19" wheel option (which is standard in the UK!)

Has also been spotted with the 18" F8x M3/M4 wheel option which is standard in most markets.

I'd be surprised as well but the Cayman vs. 911 argument is about to change with the new Cayman GTS. It will have power closer than ever to the 911.

And now, Dodge has the new Challenger Hellcat with 707 HP! That's 67BHP more than the V10 Viper and, it cost $40,000 LESS than the Viper.

I agree with you that it's not likely that the M2 will be quicker than the M4, but now, it's not without precedent.
