Any other current M2 owner thinking about a E46 M3.
I do not know why since both the E46M3 and the F87 M2 are so similar but I'm in the mood to buy a E46 M3 beater.
The reasoning is perhaps all my cars are EPS and I miss the old school raw hydraulic steering feel. |

The E46 M3 interests me, always has but if I get another car it will be something more different than the M2, perhaps an older Cayman S.
The E46 and E90 steering systems are great but I don't find the M2 system to be that far off. The complaint about lack of feedback is interesting to me because I don't recall me E90 as having much more feedback then the M2. |

I already have something "different" but was thinking about getting a E46 mainly for nostalgia and I do not own any traditional power steering cars anymore. The only new sports car with a hydraulic rack I can think of today is the AMG GT. |

Constantly checking eBay and Craigslist just for the hell of it. To me, it's the greatest looking bmw ever and would love to own one but I just can't justify 20-30k to have a car that's "more raw" then my daily M2

I just don't really have room for them both plus my wife's car. The M2 looks great and performs awesome but I do believe the E46 M3 is the best ///M car BMW has ever built when it's all said and done. If they were both sitting side by side brand new on the lot, without hesitation I'd chose the E46 M3. So if you do decide to pick one up, get a good one With proper maintenance done and you will not be disappointed. Last edited by mlust; 12-28-2016 at 04:37 PM.. |

That other saying im pretty sure was coined by a woman to make men feel like they aren't a *chump* for giving up what they like If marriage is truly a compromise - no self respecting male should ever give over everything to the spouse ala happy wife - happy life. |

I would love to keep it but really I don't have the room for it. It will be a heart breaker though. I spend a lot on my cars so I understand where she is coming from, to try and up keep all three is a lot, as she drives a 2015 Audi S5. |

It's interesting that you mention this, I'm currently on a waiting list for a M2 and I'm told it's a year or so out. Because of this, I'm considering looking for a E46 M3 this spring to hold me over. I do have a concern though that when my allocation and M2 shows, I won't want to sell the E46!

The E46 M3 was the car i dreamed of as a kid. I feel the M2 is a reincarnated, modern day version of it so that's what I opted for it over a clean E46. I could have picked up a immaculate E46, but after doing the built E30 game I just want a modern car with warranty.

E46 M3, had one, steel grey on red leather. Really looked nice. First generation SMG, drove like crap. Recall that this was a really overweight car compared to the E36 and I don't think had great reviews. Mushy suspension, I had coilovers on mine. If you think the S55 M4 exhaust note is bad, the E46 has that raspy, nasty exhaust sound. You need a "rasp terminator" pipe to get rid of it. Then it sounds pretty good. I would sooner recommend getting an E36 with the Vader seats than an E46.
