Autobild Speculates on BMW M2 specs and pricing
Featured on BIMMERPOST.com Read somewhere that BMW plans to discontinue the M235i once the M2 will be released. I think BMW will have no choice, as prospective M235i buyers will likely prefer - for a few (thousand) dollars more - to get the M2. Grim faces and cursing in some office rooms in Ingolstadt, Stuttgart and Zuffenhausen... More M2 news: http://www.bimmerpost.com/m2/

That would put the starting price of the US M2 right at 50k.
I wonder if they would drop the M235 to the 235i by putting the 300hp N55 and taking all the M Perf. parts off as standard. Start it under $40k. Last edited by PackPride85; 10-12-2014 at 08:31 AM.. |

When creating renders why can't the media artist stick to the facts of what is known? - ie the central intake shape.

though, obviously there will be at least a 2016 m235i if the M2 doesnt even begin US production until march 2016. I personally am not sure the m2 would be for me, as i'm guessing the suspension would be pretty harsh for most commuting. if bmw was going to offer a 235i without all the extra doodads, and you could still option it back up, that seems like a good option. if anything it'd be nice if they jstu did that today, but i'm guessing they just dont want to offer that many combinations and have to track all those options |

Some facts beyond this article:
The german AutoBild reported before the release of the BMW M4, that the M4 will have 422 PS. They also told the customers, that the M4 wouldn't have a manual transmission. Now we know, the M4 has 431 PS and a manual transmission is available. So do not take every word serious. They THINK that this "facts" maybe real, but they do not know this for sure. |

I think the M2 will look leagues better than the M3/M4, based off the normal series model. It's interesting that they're dropping the M235i after the M2 drops. No 240i to fill the slot? I know Mercedes offers the CLA 250 or the CLA45 AMG and nothing in-between. |

Dropping or de-tuning the M235i because of the value it really is against the proposed M2 would greatly help our (current owners) resale value

This is getting even more tempting, as it progresses to production.

"Demoting" the M235i to a 235i appears to make sense to create more distance between it and the M2. Meanwhile, the M2 is quit a ways off with a late spring 2016 debut in the USA. It will be a great car when it finally gets here.

The M235i is the first M Performance line vehicle introduced to North America. I think it's unlikely that BMW will abandon the line, and so I think it is unlikely that the M235i will be dropped. This is especially true, as Scott26 says, in jurisdictions with high taxes on "performance cars" with lower fuel economy/higher emissions. The M2 can be sufficiently differentiated from the M235i by options, performance and price, so that there is no need to drop the model.
Despite all that, I would love to be wrong and the M235i to be discontinued. I then own a limited edition!
