The older I get and the more experiences I have in life makes me realize that people don't actually grow up, they just pretend to grow up for social reasons. Inside they are still little boys and girls trying to be grown up and very often failing to do so.

Edit: Case in point, the current political campaign rhetoric.

According to the german pricing sheet, MSRP is the same.

Do you read German?

It lists an option for Apple CarPlay and something referring to LED in the options list.I am just wondering what new options there will be on the 2017 M2.

The LED is referring to the corona rings. Looks like Apple CarPlay is the only new option from what I quickly read.

Note: Does the rear spoiler look a bit bigger than the MY2016? It almost looks like it's the M performance spoiler, but painted body colour.

Oh no, now we have to buy thousands of dollars of M performance carbon winglets and dinglets to "balance the forces" of the car because of new larger wing.

At least that's what BMW said about the 2016 m performance spoiler.

I'll take carplay.

Thanks. The spoiler does look a little bit bigger but I think there is just a reflection in the picture, which makes it look larger than what it really looks like.

I don't mind waiting an extra 4 month for the new I-drive and apple car play. Hope I get a 2017 now.

So is it possible once production begins in August (due to June retooling) that orders from MY2016 will be built as MY2017 models and will include the new stuff?

If you don't think that M2 buyers are *dropping like flies * then you perhaps should stop and take a look around. Perhaps check the pricing and ordering threads.

There is a poll on these forums that indicates that over 50 percent of people that want an M2 that cannot get one will get either an M235/M3/M4. 33 percent of those buyers will go get a Porsche, which I presume you are threatening to do. If not a Porsche, then all other marques combined make up the last 17 percent.

I'll try and find the poll and add it here for you so that you can vote. In the meantime , again, if you don't think many many rabid M2 fans are leaving for the more expensive M4, check out the lease rates for an M4, or consider European deliver and/or go negotiate your best deal on an M4 and you will start to see ...

because of all the profit margin available in the M3 and M4, there are very hefty discounts available, and many buyers - including rabid bimmerpost fans - are dropping out of their bid for an M2.

I hope that you keep fighting the fight and get an M2, as you have seen thus far it isn't an easy car to get , but I doubt you will be disappointed if you get it! It's a phenomenal car, and if you plan to own you next new car for more than 2-3
Years, you will find if VERY MUCH worth the wait.
I'd be interested in seeing that poll. The point I was making was not a comparison between the M2 and M240i, but rather how BMW on one end restricted the car as not to be better than the M4 and from the other end the M240i's new engine puts it closer to the M2 in straight line performance. It just doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me. An M car should have it's space. IMO there should never be any sub model in the same series that matches any aspect of its M counterparts performance. I still like the M2, hell I love it and that's why I want one. I just don't think BMW will do anything to move the car up in performance anytime soon. If that stance makes me a curmudgeon then so be it.

#3 Waiting on the M2 (BSM)..if I can't it by July 16, then going for the '17 model after test driving a DCT. Maybe some color options in 17? Great exchanges and opinions though and someone once said, "that's why Baskin Robbins has 31 flavors" oh yea that was me...

I can get by with my German but it isn't the greatest.

Car play and the new iDrive (which includes a higher res display and new interface) look to be the only things new. And even then, we don't know if the car play will make it over here. From the thread, it sounds like it will. But at least Canada has a product bulletin for the iDrive (also in that thread). It doesn't specifically mention the M2 but since the M2 is "parts bin" () I'd be shocked if it didn't come with it.

Car play and LCI nav screen sound like two pretty good upgrades to me.

I for one am someone who want's to get into an M2, but after months of unsuccessfully trying have given up. I had multiple deposits down with dealers in multiple surrounding states and got nowhere. I've given up for now, but the last thing I want is an M235i or even the M240i and I don't want an M4 (even though I could afford it). So here's the fourth option as the loss leader... I'm now looking at other cars from other manufacturers. I have time and can wait until next year so I haven't given up on an M2 yet, but if I'm still not successful by that time my next car will not be a BMW.
Hard to know for sure, but I would bet true enthusiasts are the minority. The rest of the people just want to be in a shiny new BMW anything with the preferred options ticked. (Color, seat warmers, DCT..lol)

Or later. So far, this is playing out exactly like the E90/E92 M3. Debut in 2008, updated iDrive in 2009, LCI in 2011.

i gotcha.. as far as the performance matching... I do think that is a bit of a thing of the past. With turbo motors, it's hard to keep that separation that you are wanting.. or... at the least.. I think the separation still is there via BMW underrating the M cars more so than the non M cars.

I agree.. I don't anticipate many performance adjustments, color modifications or additional options packages to sprout up for this vehicle.

I was able to search and find it... thanks to @G8rGrl !! Here is the poll!

Is this a good analogy you think?

Cheers
Robin
What makes you think the analogy is even close?

1. E92
M3, 414hp, 400nm trq, 0-100km/h 4.6s (DCT)
335i, 302hp, 400nm trq, 0-100km/h 5.6s

2. F22
M2, 375hp, 465nm trq, 0-100km/h 4.3s (DCT)
240i, 340hp, 500nm trq, 0-100km/h 4.4s (xDrive)

The E92 had a 8000rpm 4L NA V8, the 335i had a straight 6 turbo...
The M2 and 240i both have a 3L straight six twin scroll turbo...

Also the one thing I dislike most on the 1M is the dull engine, no character at all but because the whole package talks to me so I am ok with it. Would I love it more if it had the 3.2L S54 engine? You bet. Even though using the S54 might be a bit slower but there are the benefits of better engine sound, better throttle response and the joy of reving out to 8k.

So I am not just a number guy and in this case I see that the M2 can use a better engine to justify its premium.
