MY2017 - should we expect a power increase?

With the M240 announced at 369 TQ I wouldn't be surprised if BMW does tweak the M2 for MY 2017 to have slightly higher numbers than the base M240.
Maybe adding the option of a comp package that ups the output like the M4...
Thoughts?

BMW knew the 240 was coming out so I don't think they will do anything

Not sure, and no way to tell. I'd say there is literally a 0% chance that the engine is changed, since the car was developed over a 2 year long process with the upgraded N55.

I'd expect maybe a 10 HP increase to the base number? I don't know about a competition package, because the M2 CSL is likely on the way, and should be closer in price to the base M2 than the M4 GTS is to the base M4.

Was the M3/4 base horsepower upped for any year? I think by like 5hp, right? That's probably what you can bank on happening.

Except for the e92 335i (as corrected by OrangeCrush below) I don't remember BMW having an M model with the same Torque as the normal car of the same series.

Right, but that's because this segment is very congested and they can produce many more 240is than M2s. BMW has to compete with the other brands, but probably know that they can't dish out as many M2s as they like. So the M2 is made into its own beast by distinguished driving dynamics, character, and looks, rather than massive number differences.

In fact, this could be a sign to expect the M2 to end up being a very rare car.

Good point! I think BMW will increase the power/torque on the MY17 M2, with probably a price adjustment.

If you're worried about the M2 vs M240i, don't be. Get the M2. You'll love it.

I agree with you re the engine change being unlikely.
Upping the HP/TQ even by a small number may be in the works, it just seems reasonable. Mind you I am buying the car regardless and for many more reasons that the output.

Never been my worry. I never considered a 2 series, only the M2.

Uh, e92 m3 had less torque than the e92 335i. Or does this forum not date pre turbo M cars?

All they would have to do is update the website and the M2 sales brochure. Not like the motors are rated accurately anyway.

I'm always suspicious of the 5-10hp power increases. Kind of feel like they don't even do anything sometimes.

highly doubt it. Where would they extract the additional power? Turbo is already near its operating limits, especially on pump 91.

They won't upgrade the engine to the latest 240i engine IMO. /M like to have seen the engine operating for a while before they use it to get a feel presumably for things like over heating and where the weak points are. That's why the 1/M used the N54 even though the N55 was out. There won't be enough knowledge on the new engine for the M2 to be upgraded any time soon. The only logical upgrade would be to a more S55y version, but like others have said thats probably in a CS/CSL package.

With reviews being so positive, demand so high and the M2 doing so well on the track there is no incentive for BMW to improve the base M2. As always people who value what the M car brings will disregard any power advantage of the regular models. E92 M3 sales didn't stop or slow because of the N54 even though that was beastly fast in a straight line.

No they won't as they can't! They whole idea of over boost is for safety margin, which has already been factored into to the platform.

If anything, I'm guessing slight cosmetic changes. A bump in power, if any, would probably be negligible.
