I wonder if there's an aftermarket option (a film of some kind maybe?) that could be placed on the glass of the instrument cluster to improve the contrast somehow?
You just reminded me of someone from the M3 forum that had a printing company to create a custom E9x M3 dial with light up M3 logo. As you may know the stock cluster didn't have the ///M logo that was also visible during the night. I bet he can do the same for this cluster. His forum name is MARIUS76 but not sure if he is still active.

If interested search for 'custom M3 cluster - light up ///M logo' to view what he had done. I'm sure same thing can be done for the M2 cluster as well.

I find it incredibly interesting that so many are citing the non-backlit main gauges as an issue. I complained LOUDLY about that when I got my F22 (as well as the lack of a temp gauge), and it elicited hardly a whimper at the time from 2Addicts forum members.

I'm really curious as to why BMW decided not to do this on the 2 Series. In this day and age it doesn't cost much per unit to implement -- especially when attention has been paid to other daytime-visibility dash issues such as the orange HVAC display, which as of March 2015 displays white during the daytime -- and it's not a design/space issue like the temp gauge (which I've since rectified with a P3Cars gauge). I mean, sheesh: $15K subcompacts have daytime-backlit gauges these days ...

MY 18 year old Fiat Coupe has both an oil temp and oil pressure gauge, both of which I think a good performance car like the M2 should have, especially oil temp..

Would like to know either!

Than again, I`ll take mine home the day after tomorrow

What about the relative small fuel tank capacity and how this affects the driving range?

Somebody who could elaborate?

I have only put 20miles on mine. So far, a few complaints
1. I am very new to DCT.
When I am in normal D mode and want to manually downshift it does, however it changes to S Mode and stays there. Wish it would go back to the D mode until I select S mode.

2. No storage space.

Slightly lighter than the E46 m3, silky smooth, predictable engagement. I love it.

Every time I turn on my car, the car is always on comfort mode.

Can you change that?

Agreed; but then I drive my S2000 and realize how good a gearbox/clutch can REALLY feel

But I love my M2!

Use the paddles. It won't switch to S.

It does on mine. It's also documented explicitly in the owners manual: If you use either the stick or the paddles to override the current gear, the transmission goes into manual mode. You have to tap the stick to the right to put it back into D. Not what I'd call onerous.

Before getting my F22 last year, I'd driven nothing but sticks for 38 years, and I still race a stick shift car. I was a little hesitant about the DCT at first. After almost 2000 miles, if someone offered to swap my car for a 6-speed, I'd turn them down, even if they offered to throw in the cash to cover the extra cost I paid for the DCT). The DCT is fantastic. I keep it in manual mode probably more than 80% of the time.

I'm the opposite. I wish I got manual but I've never had manual except for my sport bike so I wasn't sure if I would regret it since I'm in a major city.

That's great to hear. I'd debated quite awhile before ordering a DCT, and have been second guessing myself ever since. Looks like I made a good decision

For those of your complaining about the lack of gauges --

P3Gauge is your friend. First mod I did on my M235i. Installs in the far left (or right, for you RHD people) vent, looks pretty clean, and plugs into your OBD2 port. Will give you readouts for air, water, oil temp, boost, ignition timing, rpm, 0-60 timer, voltage, etc.

I don't know why they didn't just program the central cluster to show these things, but whatever. The P3 works just as well.

You actually have to touch the handle for it to sense it, the car isn't psychic.
Actually

@cosmos

1- you do NOT need to touch the handle. And

@ San79y

2, The comfort access works based on proximity to the key fob. If you have the key in your pocket the front door nearest you will unlock, or you can have the doors set to unlock all. The range really is about 4-5 feet and isn't enough to extend across the car. I presume it's Bluetooth or radio signal.

I agree with @cosmos , The car isn't psychic and can't read your mind regarding whether or not you have a date with your or not and what doors to unlock.

I prefer unlock all, but that's because I often put a briefcase behind the rear door on my X1. I Didn't pay for the gizmos on my 1M (I'm in love with a stripper! ) but now it's odd when the doors don't unlock when I walk up..

I was driving pretty civilized for the first two tanks with lots of city driving and got about 320km out of the tank and could fill it up with 42-43l afterwards. So the range is quite limited even if the consumption isn't that bad.

Driving back from SC delivery, I was getting a pretty steady 27 MPG (where "gallon" were our little US ones). That gives you a highway range of 350 miles/560 km, with no margin for error. So, call it about 320 miles/510 km in practical terms.

And that was on a brand-new car, while I was doing all sorts of break-in type stuff (varying speed, unnecessary gear changes, etc.).

Yes, I get about that on highways too but as soon as you turn off the highway you are in the low 20's.

I am averaging 18.1mpg since pickup over 1400 miles. Range sucks, I am filling up every day or two.
