M2 with 2 year old and 4 year old sons

I seldom have to drive my kids around, and wife has a Pilot, and am considering an M2.

Anyone else have an M2 and have to deal with car seats/kids? Thoughts and/or experiences appreciated.

I saw my first M2 today and I am in love.

I have a son thats just turning four. His frontfacing carseat is in rear on passenger side. We found a passenger seat position that gives mom (5'3") and son enough leg room. We dont have to adjust position of base. Just flip seat back forward and he climbs in back. Getting Him in and out isnt a problem. We could probably adjust base 2 or 3 inches either way. So four to six inch range. It would be tighter but COULD put him behind me (6'). Assuming you're taller than wife, you'd need older kid behind you. The challenge will be rear facing car seat behind passenger. That could be tight but probably doable assuming your carseat isnt too deep, is the kind that clicks into base, and your wife isnt too tall. I suggest taking your carseat to BMW dealer and putting it in back of any 2 series and putting wife in front. Thats the real way to know, but i'd guess you can squeeze in and it wont be too taxing to get in and out. Once they are both front facing it will be easy.

If you've no allocation yet, might as well assume kids ages +1.5 maybe, seems a long queue in certain regions.

I'd think reaching in to sort their belts would get a pain. Perfect age is when they have booster seats only. IMO.

The general consensus seems to be that once you can do front facing seats, you're good.

There was a thread in a 2 series forum somewhere.

DO IT!

I have a 6 yr old and a 3 yr old. I have a booster and a front facing seat in the back of my ///M2. I had the same setup in my e90 335. Actually not much less room in the M. Of course, ingress and egress is a bit more challenging with the coupe.

I, like you, RARELY drive both kids around. But they love it when we do!

I have pics of the setup, will get them up later

My 6 yr old, for better or worse, can buckle and unbuckle herself, as well as move the front seat forward to get herself in. And honestly, it's not hard at all to buckle my 3 year old in, with the driver's seat folded forward

To echo what the others have already said..... Your kids will fit just fine. My almost 6yr old loves it and has plenty of room with his booster seat back there

Now all OP has to do is get in line and see if his youngest can ride in his M2 before the child gets to first grade ...

I Don't have an M2 but I have a 1M which is basically the same size. My kids were 4 and 8 when I bought it. No problems as long as seats are forward facing. Personally I think it's sad people are so worried about it. Just like we have portion distortion with food we have it with cars. I literally know people with one child that dump a perfectly good 2 year old sedan for a 7 seat expedition for one baby. Don't fall into that trap. If you want an M2 you will have a tiny bit more inconvenience but they will only grow bigger and will be moving the seat forward on their own in no time. And your kids will love the cool car. When they are older they will remember driving to daycare in the beast. They won't remember some Ford Flex or other SUV. The M2 is a modern safe comfortable car. Some just have a small econobox that they carry their kids in. They have the hassle without the reward. You reward for a tiny bit of inconvenience is owning one of the coolest BMWs of this decade. This past August I bought another 1M and drove it from Toronto Ontario Canada to San Diego California with my wife and two kids 9 and 13. Nobody was traumatized or called child protective services though it felt like someone would. : ). Nothing but nice memories and great pictures crossing the country in an M car.

Do it. I lugged my daughter around in my 1M from newborn to 4 years old and now my 4 yo daughter and 11 month old son get to enjoy the M2. The rear facing cars eat does suck but we are lucky that my wife is short so there are no issues there. I am 6'1" all legs and my daughter fits fine behind me.

Easy peasy. I have 5yo and 3yo. Recaro Pro Sport booster and Britax convertible forward facing. I wouldn't want to install/remove on a regular basis but it was fine. Both fit perfectly well and the kids have no issues getting themselves in and out of the car. Once the kids can climb in themselves, coupe provides little constraints beyond installation hassles.

Kids love it and beg to ride in it. They name our cars after Star Wars characters.
- Our outgoing white X1 M-sport was a Storm Trooper.
- New Black X1 is Kylo Ren (with light saber ambient lighting)
- MG M2 is Captain Phasma.

Just ordered a set of kick mats that mount to the back of the front seats. Just search the term on Amazon tons of options. Didn't want my niece to destroy the back of the wagon I just bought dad when she plays "feets of fury" which is her favorite car pastime.

These are an absolute necessity!

Ha see that you have the mats under the seat too, bought those as well! Maybe it's different when it's your own kids but for a car I bought my father to drive my niece and nephew around in, short of wrapping the kids in plastic I did everything I could. They're short, smell funny, are constantly sticky and the little one still leaks!
