Mperformance setup

I run 4 click open compression front and 5 rear, 8 click open rebound front and 10 rear.

BMW recommended height.

10 mm spacers (Turner with intergrated hub extender) front and 5mm rear.

A bit stiffer than BMW setup, but better on track and acceptable on open road.

I'm about to have the M Performance Coilovers installed and would love to hear what kind of configurations people are using if they've modified the default settings.

Salut Ynos22 ;-)
Why broader front (10mm) than rear (5mm) ?

5mm rear is more than enough even with -2°30' camber, the wheel nicely flush.

I have just ordered 15mm front because I have Ground Control camber plates now and -3°30' camber, and plan to install AP racing 9668 campers.

Just terrific on track together with stiffer H&R sway bars.

I feel the stock settings are too stiff for daily use.

I love how the PE Suspension feels, if I wanted soft I'd go for a Lincoln.

FWIW - UK spec MP coilovers don't have the rear spacer collar - got mine fitted yesterday.

Rear is not at it lowest setting - below comparison between mine [AW] and stock [BSM]

FWIW - 1st impressions of MP coilovers are very good. Car will no doubt settle after a few hundred miles. If ride height needs tweaking, I can then either adjust and or retrofit OEM M4GTS C-clip spacers - BMW do them in 2 thicknesses 7mm and 15mm

Whats supposed to happen to the original gaiters/belows over damper rods - instructions show these being cut but is the top piece re-used and the rest disgarded, may be because the "bellows" won't fit inside the MP front coils ??

Bellows are cut and reused, pic of mine. Bear in mind the car is jacked up and the piston is full extension. When the car is back on the ground the bellows cover/protect the entire rod/thread.

My MP Coils settled rather low after 1,200 miles so I had to raise the front a little at the weekend.

Mine is a PE so I suspect this was port installed, and since it was a BMW function and for some unknown reason, the only adjustability would be to raise the ride height. So I yanked the rear springs figuring i would loosen the set screw and remove the spacers. Again for some unknown reason they used tamper proof set screws, with no opening to insert any kind of tool. I used a cutting wheel on a Dremel and made a slot, and easily loosened the tamper proof set screw. Did the rears first as figure they would be the most challenging. So that's the low down, (no pun intended).
So, a little Thread Resurrection: How thick are those collars on the rear? Mine is still riding higher than I'd like, but making further adjustments will require removal of the wheel arch liners so I can get the c-spanner on the adjuster...

Thanks for the reply: They look thinner than the adjustment collar when fitted - how do they compare to the ones on the front?

I'm asking as the picture of the front set up looks quite low.

They appear to be the same. The front ones I didn’t remove as I would have had to remove the struts and springs to get them off. I lowered them as low as they would go, and then adjusted the perches.

Resurrecting an old thread. Could anyone comment on the ride quality compared to stock suspension? Do the front progressive springs assist with handling rough roads better than stock?

Have a look at Jetbill's thread here:

https://f87.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1590553

Note that the results he posts for the dampers are taken from full soft rather than full hard so you'll have to do some arithmetic to directly compare them with BMWs settings.

This is what I'm seeing:

Quote:
Compression between 1-3 from full soft or 9-11 from hard.
Rebound around 12 -14 from full soft or 6-8 from hard.
Rear :
Compression around 6 from full soft or 6 from full hard.
Rebound between 14-16 from full soft or 4-6 from full hard.

This varies a bit as all dampers have 20 clicks of rebound adjustment but front vary between 11-13 (driver vs passenger) and rears vary between 14-16 (driver vs passenger) on compression which drives me a little nuts.

BMW recommends from full hard (closed)
Street F C6/R9 ; R C6/R12
Track F C4/R7 ; R C4/R10
I don't even know what mine are set at (haven't touched it since delivery)...how hard is front adjustment...apparently you have to take off the rear tire for one adjustment? Is it obvious which way is closed/full hard?

Is it going to be a noticeable different going to this config (on track)?

Unless someone fiddled with them, they come set at the Street settings.

Do you happen to know what those are in comparison to the track settings? Want to try the track settings this weekend
