F87 Brake Replacement Simple Question
Hey Guys,
Planning on changing brakes on my 2017 F87. Simple question. In the image, there's a recommendation to change the "retaining spring". Is that the part #9 (red arrow) in the diagram? Thank you!

Yes, that is correct; #9 is the retaining spring, or clip as it is referred to in the diagram

The retaining spring is item #4 in the front and rear diagrams below. There's no need to replace it.

Thank you for picking this up. Not sure how I got to this diagram, but sorted it out with my VIN. You saved me from ordering a bunch of incorrect parts. Cheers!

For street use only, are there better pads and rotors than OEM that people gravitate towards?

There are alternative pad options although I can't recommend street ones, I'm still on my original stock pads after many sets of track pads. For rotors, I don't think there are as many alternatives, I've seen listing for Zimmerman which are probably decent but the stock rotors are rather good.
Replacing the retaining springs or the pins (shown as #3 in both diagrams above) probably don't need replacing. The pins do need replacing eventually but it's after a lot of pad swaps but if you're simply street driving and swapping pads for the 1st or 2nd time then they will be absolutely fine. After probably upwards of 40-50 uses that's when the pins can start to get a little loose and can start to back out. Just cleaning the springs and pins and re-installing should be fine. |

The Akebono pads look great and were a fair bit less when I checked, but I'd my order had already shipped. Next time maybe!
