Occasionally get the can't get into first problem. Car is daily, no track, short commutes but engine does get to temp. Driven in anger now and then at a weekend. Thanks
Can you get Ravenol PDK Fluid?

Some compelling data here even if it is from Ravenol:

Note it should be this PDK fluid not the other DCT fluid they offer. This one lists BMW-MTF-LT-5. I would try this or genuine Pentosin FFL-3 if you can't get the other fluids. Actually, I like this fluid better than the regular Motul DCTF on the spec sheet anyway.

I am running the Motul High Torque DCTF and it seems to have made my cold shifting worse but hot is better. I can only say seems because I did change it as temperatures were dropping.

Yikes that's not good to hear, the motul high torque dctf seemed so promising especially in Jimmy's car and use case.

Yeah I'm not ready to conclude anything yet. It does seem better once the car is up to temp, and I did change it just before it got really cold here.

Let the car idle a bit longer before you drive it. Because even in neutral the gears in the gear box are being spun and that warms up the oil.

But imo a good synthetic oil shouldn't have issues in the cold. On the stock fluid I noticed it performed significantly better in the cold weather vs. then hot summer, so that probably means the stock oil might be getting too thin in the hot summer. I'm hoping redline dctf will be able to bridge the gap and keep the performance good in the summer and the winter.

Yeah I don’t know really. I thought the stock fluid was better warm for me too lol. The Motul HT is actually a tiny bit thinner than OEM fluid at 40 C and has a -69 C pour point so you’d think it’d be at least as good in the cold. The viscosity index is lower, so at some super low temp they will cross over, but I think the shift feel is possibly more dependent on friction modifiers etc since they are all thin fluids.

Yeah most likely, not sure why the motul behaved worse.

Just looking for any updates from people using the Redline DCTF in a manual trans. I'm at 23k and gear changes have become a bit notchy (more than normal). I occasionally need to put it in neutral to engage 1st gear.

Adding to my last post here https://f87.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh...&postcount=128

I'm now at 135K km and still the issue selecting 1st gear when stationary hasn't happened once with the Redline fluid (last 50K km).

I haven't researched what change intervals should be but I first put it in at 85K, changed at 110K and will probably do again shortly even though I don't feel any deterioration in shifting.

23k only?! Might not be a fluid issue coz the transmission fluid is supposed to last longer than that.

As another data point: I changed my MT fluid this past Sept ‘23 with Motul High Torque DCTF, (my ‘19 M2C had ~ 10k)…and I too noticed a slightly rougher shifting when engine was cold. However, once everything warmed up - perfectly smooth, but not overly. The OE transmission fluid ‘seemed’ smoother during the first 10-15 min, but I had somewhat frequent shifting issues (N to 1st, or 1-2). Nonetheless, it isn’t a drastic change, and certainly nothing that would bother me - hard to really have an objective conclusion w/o doing back to back tests, but I reckon that, with any change or or upgrade we do on these cars, the more in tune (or sensitive) we become w.r.t. any deltas - good or bad.

Note that I also have AutoSolutions SSK, which is, IMHO - one of the best mods you can do for this car!
