I'm agreeing with this. At least for the m2. Perhaps it will be a little more the a ZCP, because of the new motor. However it sounds like it will have potential to be watered down and certainly not limited edition.
Taking this into consideration, an m2csl COULD be a very special car. Even a touch more hp in a lighter configuration with the 2 series platform? Not to get excited, but it could be really hot. I could even speculate that it would be so hot that they wouldn't produce it due to the impact on the rest of the lineup.

Right there with ya man!
BMW can keep their DCT! Gimme a s55/6MT with some optional goodies and i'm set, only downside is the.......... exhaust sound

This make no sense, if the M2 Competition replaces the normal M2.

BMW M did not officially say anything yet about M2 variants.

But we can always express what we personally think about the likelihood of the claim that the "M2 Competition" will be limited to 1,000 cars (claim: see here, here and recently also here).

I said it before and I'll say it again (see here and here): IMHO the M2 Competition will be no limited edition, but only limited by production capacity (alike the M4 CS). Why ? Because that would only be common sense, also from a marketing/sales perspective: if the "M2 Competition" price is kept competitive, the car will be a sales hit. And for sure the Leipzig factory has the production capacity to make more than just 1,000 M2 variants (especially if the M2 N55 is retired in June 2018, passing the floor to the M2 S55 variant). The "M2 CSL" rumored for 2019, could be a different story (likely a limited edition).

I'm prepared to make this bet about the 2018 "M2 Competition":
  • if the "1,000 cars only" rumor turns out to be true, I humbly accept having lost the bet by driving my M2 on the Sella Pass in the Italian Dolomites someday in 2018 when road conditions are appropriate;
  • if the "1,000 cars only" turns out to be inaccurate, I will go drive my M2 on the Sella Pass in the Italian Dolomites someday in 2018 anyway.

I think most people are saying the same as what you are. Dealerships were told that the M2 CS or special version M2 would be limited to a 1000 units. I think this is not the Competition.

I think they were referencing some other car, possibly the CS or CSL. The competition M2, if it replaces the base M2 should not be limited to 1000 units. It should be way higher.

Only confusing aspect is... How would the dealerships be told about this car so much ahead of time.

What is the likelihood of the "base" m2 getting the b58 motor starting 2019 and the cs / csl coexisting as planned?

I would say low.
They would have done it now.

If sales for the M2 was slow initially, they might have changed to the B58 for the 2018 LCI. But since the demand was so high, BMW didn't have to make the effort to offer anymore.

Hmm, if only this had been discussed somewhere before....

It is certain that there still is a lot of uncertainty. Rumors anywhere the wind blows. Let's just sit and wait for BMW to officially release M2 variant information.

Not sure why the camera guy wasn't focusing more on model with the wing???

No cage or rear seat removal yet.

That's not the GTS or CSL.

I am not sure when BMWBLOG became so bad. The car that is on the video does not have a rear wing. What they see and think is the wing is just a piece of ground that looks like the wing unless I am missing something.

When was BMWBLOG ever good? They get 99% of their info from here and yet still manage to get it wrong.

The person who wrote this article was clearly high! I do not think I'll read a less accurate article; on anything, anywhere on the planet this week. I have just deleted bmwblog from my favourites!

I see what you're saying after zooming in. If looking through the rear glass, there is nothing there. No wonder the lack of interest in the video.

The brakes seem to be the smaller set on that mule. Couldn't see on the other car.

What is going on with the rear muffler? Hopefully that is just for testing and they will make it smaller and tuck it up further into the underside. If not it will look like crap and ruin the beautiful back end that we all so much enjoy.

That is my biggest concern with the design of the M2 Competition. The muffler is very large and noticeable in all of the test pics that have been posted on the forum. They will definitely need to redesign the rear bumper to hide it.
