ROAD RAGE
I had my 1st road rage encounter in the M2 last night. I was driving and finally had the car warmed up so I did a short quick acceleration in a 45mph 3 lane AVE minding my own business. I had my windows down and music on but not loud. This mid 30-40 year old dark skin Asian (prolly Filipino) with earbuds on in a 4 door Toyota pulls up next to me on my right side tried to say something to me. At first I thought it was somebody I might know as I looked at him with curiosity. He yells out "Get a grip!" At that point I'm thinking what's this guys problem and I didn't notice his car till now which proves I wasn't intentionally trying to pull on him. I angrily replied back "You got a problem!?" He rolls his windows back up and moves forward. At this point I'm trying to pull up next to him but there is this SUV in front blocking me but not for long. The SUV frees up some space and I caught up staring through his tinted windows and he rolls down his window and angrily yells out "WHAT!?" in a weird funny way. He slows down and as I moved forward he gets behind me. We are on the leftest lane. Now I have a left turn coming up which creates two extra lanes for left turn only. I turn into the leftest lane and slowed down quickly to let him catch up. I then realize he wasn't following me for the left turn. However instead of staying in his lane which goes straight anyways he moves one over to the right behind a few cars and yells out "O you tough guy huh?" I looked at him and shook my head and said "You a hater bro!" and went on my way.
Anyone have any bad encounters they can share or any advice on how to deal with these situations? |

I agree, just look, smile and wave hi! Defuse it completely. Otherwise close you windows and ignore the other driver.
Don't reach for your cellphone to 'film' it either, that only provokes nuts more. And they may in fact "swat" you, i.e. call the cops and claim you aimed a gun at him (instead of the cellphone) Try to prove a negative if you so happen to have a gun in your car (legally). Wave and say hi as though you know the person! Mike

"Nothing to see, let's just move on folks." That is my attitude, go first if you wish, have a nice day, not even worth a second thought. I am going back to enjoying my car.

Him: "Get a grip."
You: "It's an M car, sweet cheeks. I wasn't racing/pulling/provoking you. It's just a lot faster and louder than your tub of sticky rice". All said with a wry smile.

I've had encounters from basic defensive driving to minding my own business.
One time, I was simply stopped at a light and a guy spit in my car, likely trying to hit my face. I felt his spit hit my hand and I was disgusted and infuriated when I realized what happened. Looking to my side, I saw this guy staring me down, locked eyes and noticed his two other drunken friends. I rolled up my window, didn't cower but slowly looked away. There wasn't going to be a good ending by any more confrontation. Other times, someone trying to cut merging lanes at speed and expecting me to let them in... middle fingers fly, swerving in my lane... c'mon. I've had people blow up because I was a second late on a green light and putting my MT in gear. They drive past me in anger, yelling, honking, etc. There is never a good outcome, no matter what the situation. Things escalate, people get enraged over the stupidest things. Why fall into the same BS and then suffer the consequences because of a situation you didn't create. If it's severe and you felt threatened... get the plate and report it. If this is someone that is dangerous, the chances are someone else has reported the driver previously. You'd be doing others a courtesy my making sure there is record of it. |

If someone's blood/alcohol/testosterone levels are up, I just do my best to ignore them. In the US, and especially here in Texas, you never know what someone else might have in their car. |

Pisses them off more than anything, usually. Then be on your way. You never know who's going to lose their sh#t over nothing....

I should of taken the high road and ignored/responded differently but at the heat of the moment I didn't want to take any disrespect from this guy and to let him know he was barking at the wrong tree. But at the end of the day it's not worth getting into any negative consequences over this.

Seriously? You dignified this guy to this extent? Be honest you're 25 years old max. right? |

You've got a lot more to lose than him. Just move on next time, not worth it.

Reminding yourself of that each time you have a confrontation is enough to diffuse the situation (in ones mind).
