Brake dust cleaning

Hello everyone,

So I’m cleaning my wheels thoroughly to ceramic coat them due the brake dust it forms frequently, and to make my cleaning easier.

I have cleaned well for the most part and clayed it as well, but at the very edges there’s still a tiny bit of dust that’s stuck and is hard to clay or brush.
I have been using iron decon and brake cleaners.
What do you guys suggest?

I suggest to just drive it and and forget about it because it is impossible to Keep them 100% clean

That would be a good option but it always lingers in the corner of my head whenever I wash the car, but I eventually cleaned out most of the caked up brake dust.

What cleaning products have you tried? There may be something stronger I can recommend.

Plastic razor blades my friend. Back when I had my 07 STI, I would use my fingernails to get all the stubborn brake dust spots and then looked for something that mimicked nails and found plastic razor blades. I use those with a wheel cleaner as lube. I've gone up to Meguiars Wheel Brightener (acid) with great results.

Meg's WB is strong but poisonous (contains HF/ABF). Make sure you use gloves and don't breathe it in if at all possible.

I would recommend clay vs a plastic razor probably but whatever works.

Thought he said he had tried clay. As always, start with the least aggressive approach and work your way up.

Yes so I did use clay with wheel cleaner and iron decon, but took quite a while, and also fingernails.

I would try a more aggressive clay. Clay can remove paint overspray so it's hard to imagine it wouldn't remove brake dust.

Will definitely do for my other wheels,
I had a set of medium one so I believe the aggressive one would be much better.

Went with chemical guys “heavy clay bar”
But I believe any heavy clay bar should work and you don’t need clay luber, water is fine.
