I admit that the digital gauge cluster is nice, and regardless, im not running out to remove my name from the wait list.

I put a dinan sport tuner for $300 and a fabspeed catted DP for $1300 on my M2 and crush my buddies S55 M3 all day long anywhere in the powerband..... I still will profess my hatred for that engine. Although great with the tech.

New Mustang has an impressive 12-inch digital instrument cluster.

Digital instrument clusters are the future. Here's the one of the Audi Q2.

Audi's virtual cockpit is notoriously buggy. I'd wait a solid 5 years before I ever bought a car using that.

Wonder if the new digital cluster could be retrofitted into the current model M2. The current cluster is almost unreadable in low light.

I, for one, would never want a fully digital cluster in my M2. Definitely prefer the old school mechanical gauges.

Analog or digital. It's the driving fun that counts imo

But I guess I could live with this layout and an S70/2:

Agree. They are really cool and all. But there is starting to be waaay to much pretty lights and patterns to draw your eye from where it belongs.. on the road! There are only a few numbers you need to know, so why all the complexity?

If I was going techie, I would much prefer the HUD... and even that I am not sure about.

I can't decide. The "old school" part of me says .. no way.. analog .. course most race cars have things like AIM for a dash these days so... I dunno.

Perhaps a fully configurable digital dash would be the best option overall. Not just two or three pre-set modes.

While I think the digital clusters are cool, I agree. In 5 years time these 1st gen digital clusters will look ancient compared to new tech. Would much rather have a HUD

Same here. A friend has a Tesla and not long after he got it some issue popped up with the cluster panel and he basically had nothing there. Tesla fixed it quickly, so it wasn't a big deal. However, just the idea of having an "all or nothing" instrument panel is a little frightening.

I also like having some "dimension" to the interior. Having the touch panel to control everything in his car versus knobs and buttons I can easily use by feel would drive me a little nuts.

I know there is the plus side to these things, though. They can be upgraded easily and new features can be added. Just not a fan of anything but simple to use and simple to read instruments in my car.

Although I appreciate an analog cluster, a digital one is far more versatile. Love the fact you can customize them. Imagine, you could have a oil temp gauge ALL THE TIME. When's the last time you had your NAV screen die? When's the last time your laptop screen died, without it being dropped? The tech is pretty reliable nowadays and if my cluster went out it would be a temporary setback.

I can even see apps in the near future that can tell you how much fuel you have in your tank, when your next scheduled service is, etc. Imagine being able to config your cars features from an app. Functionality outweighs any risk IMO.

I agree. Things always come full circle.

In 20 years (once every Kia has a digital dash) Audi will launch an Analog dash option as part of some timeless luxury package for $5k. It will probably be glitchy the first couple years too.

It would be perfect, if there was a way to keep the dash lights on 100% of the time.
