That M5 must have been traveling at a significant high rate of speed to lose a wheel like that. I'm very much impressed by the integrity of the passenger compartment and how well it'd held up. It's just so very sad to see a fine automobile had lost its life in protecting its moronic driver.

OMG. Hope they are ok.
But, I don't understand why not pay $200/day for track day to enjoy the car.
It is much safer and more fun where you can hit those turns and front straight.
Or you can even find a supercar track day where more open lane for you.

Zoom in on the bottom photo. It gives a little bit better shot of the trunk. It looks more like a Prius to me, but in that top pic I can see the resemblance to the RS7.

How do we know they were racing? Have more details been published somewhere or is that just speculation?

I didn't say they were racing.
But I do assume that the M5 owner was driving fast.
With that amount of damages, it is not low speed.
I don't own any M cars, but I took my cars to the track to enjoy it.

Someone was speeding wayyyyyy above the limit for that kind of damage! It's hard to know which direction of travel both the M5 and the Prius were going,..as they both could have spun as a result of the contact. However, note that the greatest impact area is on the passenger side of the M5,...and driver side of the Prius,...which indicates to me that the M5 was sideways when initial contact was made,...which put the Prius in the weeds!

Anyone else sees it like this?

Edit: What is not shown is there a side road,...where perhaps one driver didn't see the other and turned into the a lane and caused the accident. So, if the Prius was making a Right turn it or the M5 would have had to cross the line,...if the Prius was making a Left turn,..the impact from the M5 would be on the opposite side of the Prius vs driver-side right corner. If the M5 was making the turn into traffic,...from either side of the road,...it would be crazy hard to come up with a scenario that makes it contact the Prius at the point of impact!

It would be interesting to know which driver was at fault and how the accident happened!
