A couple weeks ago I changed the fluid (@ 30K km with DCTF again) as I believe it requires shorter intervals than the oem. Couldn't detect any change to shifting with the new oil. |

Any ATF fluid should be changed every 30k there is no such thing as lifetime ATF, fluids are cheap transmissions are really expensive

Just got my transmission fluid change kit in from FCP Euro. My M2 is right around 34K miles, so I’ll swap the fluid soon.
This’ll be my first DIY transmission fluid change (I’ve already DIY’ed the engine and rear diff oils). Do y’all warm up the transmission fluid before draining it? Or is draining it cold the way to go? |

Yup! Even though MTF isn't that thick and there isn't much of it, it is always better to drain it warm to help speed up the draining process and help resuspend any particles to allow for a cleaner drain

Rowe is an OE for bmw, so no doubt they make good quality stuff. However, I still think there are probably better mtf alternatives than OE style fluids.

https://www.rmeuropean.com/Products/...513-MFG36.aspx It’s an HC / Group III clone of the Pentosin, 1/3rd the price lol. The actual Pentosin, Red Line, and Motul High Torque seem to qualify as vollsynth. The Rowe is probably decent, it’s at least comparable to the OE or Motul Multi DCTF. |

Either way I'm going to try dctf, and iirc you were going to try motul high torque dctf right? Then if we have positive results I think we should swap fluids the next time around so we get a comparison.

It's no doubt a good option if you want an OEM replacement, however if you want a fluid that offers better shift feel than stock, then I think you'll still have to go with the aftermarket brands like redline dctf or motul high torque dctf.

Same here, I'm over seas right now so I have to get home first. Hopefully I'll be able to do it this year.

Just picking this up, is that a US warranty thing you have to use badged BMW oil?
Certainly not in EU. BMW have a spec, MTF-LT5, and any oil made by anybody that meets or exceeds that spec is fine. What's the point of having a spec otherwise? Doesn't have to be 'approved' by bmw or anybody else. Just meet the spec. Same with all service items, no need to be bmw parts to keep warranty, just equivalent spec. |

Do you think BMW chose what they did because of the longer interval? I don't mind changing more often if I can get OE quality with no other drawbacks.

I think bmw is just hoping for failures so people are forced to buy new cars. So personally stock fluid or not I'd still change it more frequently than not, because it's cheap insurance - especially with fcp euro and Turner motorsport and their life time warranty.
