M2 N55 6MT Vacuum Line
I was swapping out stock chargepipe to the VRSF aluminum chargepipe on my M2 (N55 6MT) and every youtube DIY I watched told me the manual models don't have a vacuum line going into the chargepipe (VRSF even gave a rubber plug to fill the vacuum line hole on their chargepipe).
But on my car there was vacuum line going into the stock chargepipe (circled in red, pic attached below) and so I thought I have to plug that vacuum line into the new VRSF chargepipe as well (else where would that vacuum go?). My question is: is it normal that my manual m2 has this vacuum line connecting to my stock chargepipe? And is it ok to plug that same vacuum line into the new VRSF chargepipe? |

Yes this is normal and present on all N55 M2s. For some reason even the manuals got this vent on the F87 even though the F22 M235i doesn’t have it - you’ve got nothing to worry about

Looks like you’re in CA. I’d love to hear about your experience or expectations for getting your car thru smog inspection with the aftermarket charge pipe. Any thoughts or experiences are welcome over in this thread on the topic:
https://f87.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1997150 It looks like a plurality of folks are getting through the inspection just fine. But not everyone… |

This vacuum line is for the tank ventillation, so it's wise to keep it.

Little bit off topic but any insights is appreciated.
Does this mean I can measure negative pressure (vacuum) of the intake manifold if I attach a pressure sensor by bifurcating a tubing from here? What I have learned was I can get the boost pressure but not the vacuum pressure with BMW turbo models.

Thanks for your reply. Which platform did you use for data logging? If I remember correctly it was not included in the list of parameters of BimmerLink.

IMO don't waste your money on those inferior OBD2 adapters, buy a bmw specific one that will be able to tap in to the car's flex ray system and be able to be used with bmw tuning, coding, and diagnostic tools - something the obdlink mx or other inferior adapters won't be able to do.
In terms of data logging, I think bimmer link can show vaccum, it is present in the manifold pressure guage, or the boost guage which goes negative when under vaccum. I can't remember exactly though.

By regularly monitoring the vacuum value, hopefully I can find a sign of engine trouble earlier. I was thinking of installing an OBD based multi functional gauge which I used in my Evo9 but their compatibility chart says only positive pressure is shown with BMW and MINI models. I wish I could used this with F87 as it’s so simple to install and operate. https://youtu.be/9OIugR75PH4
