To be honest, I haven't noticed an appreciable difference in time it takes to warm up in Comfort vs. the other modes.

One of the reasons Comfort mode runs "hot" is to increase efficiency (better combustion that that temperature vs Sport temps). Personally I like to keep temps a bit lower despite the efficiency loss - in general more heat causes more wear. Although I don't know if it actually makes any appreciable difference in engine life between those two temperatures.

I’d like to see that, because MDM definitely runs hotter than sport+ on my car.

How are you measuring that?

All we need is one of the guys with the M Perf wheel or gauges to switch between the modes while driving down the interstate.

MDM mode definitely runs the same hotter temps as comfort mode. '18 LCI have an oil temp gauge.

Interesting. I’ll have to hook my laptop up to my ‘17 to see if it does the same.

Would be good if others can confirm. Seems crazy MDM would have less aggressive Comfort like cooling.

I have a '18 as well and have noticed that in MDM temps are around 230deg while in Sport/+ its closer to 200deg

Appears my US-spec 2017 M2 has the parts shown in red, plus the additional oil to air oil cooler (not shown in top illustration) on a separate circuit (independent from coolant circuit).

Today...when switching from MDM to Sport or Sport+, the coolant temp drops from 215 to 180...

Guess all the replies solved this mystery, and sounds like a good reason not to use MDM at the track.

Altho, if you’re pushing the car hard enough at the track to need the extra cooling, you’re probably already using DSC off. I use MDM in the rain, so no cooling worries there.

Not true. MDM because it’s on the comfort engine mapping it defaults to the comfort engine temp setting.

On most BmW’s When you WOT it will raise the coolant pump speed thus dropping temperature ( also open thermostat more ) and increase the oil pump

So I'll keep using MDM to warm up the car then.

I thought about that, but I’d be tempted to have fun and get the revs up while in MDM and the engine is cold.

I wonder if there really is no warm up time difference bn the modes? The more aggressive cooling modes drop temps to 170-190F. Surely the “OK” temp is below that?

How do you check your coolant temp?

Just realised this accidentally today when cruising at 120km/h. Came accross this thread when looking in the internet to double check.

I also noticed that, regardless of the driving mode, the coolant temps will also drop from 100-105ºC and stabilise at about 85ºC when exterior ambient temperature reaches 30ºC.
