That is a good news who likes a trolleybus, but I will stick with public transport then, because i like to sit at the back seat of the trolleybus, I never thought that ordinary people will be driving a trolleybus a proper car should produce a sound and have an internal combustion engine.

Charging Network

BMW has major catching up to do, and is currently way behind in the BEV game
Hello
I am lucky to be on my third EV. A smart, 2015 REX and Now a 2017 REX. My other car is an X3d--2l--would love the 3l in the US for X3. I use the REX for all my short errands. Its wonderful. I love it.

Have a house in the mountains 200 miles away. Love to fill up the X3d and settle in for a 650 mile range without worrying about petrol. I can make the round trip easy and have something in the tank when I get back.

I have on a couple of occasions, I have taken the REX up to the mountain house. Its been great to keep the miles off the X3d. I must say, that the Charging Network is getting better, but its not in the same League as the BMW customer service we have come to know and love. There are a couple of networks here in the NE, EVgo and Chargpoin+. They are ok, but broken stations need to be fixed in a day or so, not several weeks. These Network folks need to develop an attitude that they are in a fight for their jobs with ICE and need to perform or they will go the way of the buggy whips. They need to have 6 or so stations like Tesla, not just one. When the single one is broken or in use, its a big problem to find another. I don't hear those kind of issues with the Tesla network. So for me, the network may be as important as the vehicle. I think that the networks need to up their game, particularly with many more EV set to need charging.

Every BMW dealer needs a multi fast charger in his front lot, along with the access card. Right now, I only know of one dealer in the Boston area that has Fast charging, and it is on Cape Cod. Many have slow charging, but its not the real deal. That will not get it done.

PS: can't wait for the X3 electric soooooooon!

i4

Yea

I knew as soon as we got the i4 designation removed from the i3/i8 Forum, BMW would release the real i4. Murphy's Law.

It depends on how long you want to wait.

I'd consider it as an option, but I don't buy electric cars I lease them and I don't expect Tesla to offer a lease I'd be happy with.

Yea, I get that.. I'm just a stubborn rock. haha Which is why I won't stop my fiancé from getting the model 3 to see how it goes. She doesn't drive too much thankfully.

The BMW i4 if you will is the EV of the 4er Gran Coupe (G26) This Vision Concept contains a mix of features although conceptualised here that will be interpreted on both vehicles.

The BMWi4 receiving a more technical look compared to a more organic look on the 4er.
As an example: the twin kidney grille will be more angular on the i4, its look allows radar sensors to be completely hidden from view allowing a very clean minimalistic appearance.

With the kidney grille on the G26 appearing more organic and traditional classic BMW.
Coupe available too. As well as the i4 derived from the Vision Concept Car.
It will prompt debate. And some may think it is too controversial. Finally a modern BMW today to provoke controversy.

It's a unique way of separating each model via brand and design identity.
Our first impression of this parallel strategy will be the unveiling of the Concept iX3 in Beijing next month.

I'm pretty sure Tesla will not make any improvements in their battery technology between now and 2020 and their range will stay pretty much the same so BMW will crush them.

Just look at the past 2-3 years. Same batteries, same energy density, same range.

Bye, bye Tesla!

Right?

Unless I am driving my car across the Atlantic Ocean I don't care if it's worldwide. I just need to be able to charge this in my garage.
Then you will be fine. But if you want to take a trip it might be an issue depending on where you're going.

Unfortunately the CCS combo plug is not that well-established at this point.

But remember you can always call Enterprise and ask them to pick you up.
I have a 3 month old at home. Only place I'm taking trips to anytime soon is Target to pick up diapers.

Gas or electric... it's fun to have a choice. And save the miles on the other "classics" for weekends.

Any car manufacturer can put an even bigger battery in their car to Claim high range.

Besides, nothing about current battery tech is really that suited for EV. we need some sulfur based batteries for things to get interesting.
