You shouldn't have to if its genuine PnP as OEM FMIC comes out from underneath w/o issues so would expect upgraded FMIC to go back in the same way.

FWIW installed Wagner Comp Evo 2 FMIC on my F2x n55 as above ie not removing front bumper.

For anyone who has installed this, have you done anything to clean the intercooler out before installing it? When I took mine out of the box last night to install it this morning, I took the caps off the end tanks and saw a piece of casting so I rubbed it with my finger and it came off fairly easily. I managed to get the piece out, but it concerns me about other similar pieces. It seemed relatively large - about the size of the end of a medium ball-point pen. Not sure what that would do to the turbo cold side, past the valves, in the combustion chamber, etc...

Thanks in advance for your input!

An M235i owner and I compared OEM IC inlet/outlet angles and ours were identical.
I mounted the upper portion of the new pipe (VRSF) but left the lower portion loose. I ended up having to lower the intercooler (CSF) on the drivers side to get the lower pipe to fit/line up right with the intercooler, then once mated, raise the intercooler to the mounted position. I zip tied the radiator fan backwards towards the rear of the car to gain extra room for putting the intercooler up and in without rubbing against the fan. Getting the intercooler up and in was the worst/most difficult part for me - there was a lot of putzing around with it.

I wonder about the strength of the plastic mounting points for the intercooler with the two relatively small OEM mounting lag screws. It looks like longer ones might be better, but it's still plastic and that intercooler is heavy! Overall, very pleased with the arrangement and install!

Good to hear you were able to get the VRSF pipe installed with the CSF.

I couldn't get my FTP charge pipes (turbo to intercooler, and intercooler to intake manifold) installed with the CSF IC. These are the only aftermarket pipes I know of for the N47/328d. The CSF outlet location is too close to my intake manifold opening for the pipe, and the intlet is at too different of an angle for the turbo to intercooler pipe.

I ended up taking the CSF IC out and putting a Wagner EVO 2 competition in. In comparing the two, I noticed that the inlet/outlets on the Wagner are actually closer together than the CSF. There's a good half inch of extra room between the CSF inlet/outlets compared to the Wagner. The cores are the same width, but the CSF end takes place the inlet/outlets further apart. I was able to get my FTP turbo to intercooler and intercooler to intake manifold pipes installed with the Wagner.

EDIT: After pulling my OE IC out of a box and comparing it to the CSF IC, the spacing between the CSF inlet/outlets matches that of my OE IC, so the Wagner is narrower than reference.

The CSF IC is 28 lbs - the price to pay for bar plate and high density - so it’s not as bad as 15 kgs but not light either.

Wagner Competition Evo I and II (fin and tube) are considerably lighter at 6.6 and 8.8 kgs respectively. Different cooling characteristics and more $$...
Wagner Comp2 all of this makes it a win win imop even though it was still a tough choice for me to choose between CSF and the Wagner. I guess the weight, higher CFM and cool down difference is what sold me. Still was a tough decision. Perhaps cannot go wrong with either one.

i reused the original bolt. it's more of a lag screw with a bigger thread pitch than a normal bolt. you'll need a t25 driver to remove it

as for those looking for a diy, you can use my video as a guide. this video was for the aa unit, but the only difference is the CSF unit needs two additional washers.

Thanks for the vid. You made the replacement of the charge pipe look easy.

We have another 55 intercoolers shipping out Monday from our factory and will be sent out to customers end of April once our container is unloaded. (all of these are already sold based on priority order to our dealers and distributors)

Another 100 intercoolers coming middle/end of May - about 1/2 of this shipment is to fill more backorders, and the other 1/2 is to put some into stock for new orders.
- Another 100 pieces behind that for late June delivery as well.

CSF will have plenty of intercoolers to keep up with the demand in the next 45-60 days.

PM me with any questions.

Found mounting the pipes back on rather diffult due to the intercooler inlets being painted so adds some extra thickness. Ideally would have been nice if it we’re machined finish.

None the less everything fitted fine, initially was looking for some kind of mounting hardware. Found some washers which did the job.

So I just had my trusted shop install the FMIC. They had no issues installing/fitting the FMIC (ER CPs on both sides), but they did point out that the setup feels a bit less secure than it could be. They weren't overly confident if the fmic being held by two screws and washers was the beast idea. It does sit in there pretty tight and it doesn't look like it's going anywhere.

Will post a pic of the FMIC installed later

We have professional race guys running this intercooler, for almost 8 months now (since pre-production units went out) - no issues.

BIG update The intercooler is now TUV approved - looking at CARB approval next, which should be easy with the TUV approval coming before it!

we have 2 intercooler containers coming this month - 1st intercooler of silver units arriving end of this week / early next week (depends on custom clearance)
2nd intercooler coming middle of May with both black / silver units
Total this month will be shipping about 85 intercoolers out - another 100 intercoolers next month.

Here is a cool install video from our friends at Evolve Automotive in the UK from an install last week!

The intercooler seems to be doing a good job of keeping things cool (BM3 Stage 2, Oct 91 - OAT 11.5C / 52.7F):

https://datazap.me/u/wjjkoevoets/boo...-12&zoom=1-347

Mods as in signature minus pure inlet.
