Some dealer may require deposit just to be on their waiting list, you have no choice cause the car is so in demand it's up to you at this point to participate or not

As far as deposit being refundable, it's case-by-case and, integrity of the dealer, is the car already on the lot, are the color/option marketable in the area etc. Good dealer would confirm your color, options and buyer seriousness once production number becomes available to avoid this situation. I bet you can back out here with deposit fully refundable.
I backed out on a custom order albeit non-M BMW due to recall, CA was not too excited but my deposit is refunded within 2 weeks.

I'd call Seattle dealer, hey they have 7 on the floor
It'd only cost probably $800 to truck one to you dealer as "courtesy delivery", beat the waiting. I am still skeptical those 7 at Seattle dealer are available, as you mention your dealer waiting list goes all the way to mid 2019, but worth a try.
I already have a M2 arriving at the NJ port on the 15th. I was trying to figure out how to understand what you wrote, but I think it requires putting myself in a position that I'm not. Channeling my thought process 1.5 months ago, before I placed my order... which takes some time and thought to do. I know my actual thought process was to go to another dealer, because that's what I did. I had a choice because there is 12 dealerships just on the eastern side of my state. And 4 of them had allocations that would deliver between March-May of this year.

My issue was the non-refundable deposit to be on a waiting list. How do I know the dealer isn't over-selling their allocations? If 20 people have a deposit and they only have 10 allocations, my money is betting that 11 of them to back out so I could be in. Otherwise I lost $1000.

Not sure why Seattle would take listing photos of all these cars and have them out to be oogled at if they aren't available. That makes no sense. They wanted to put me in the gray one but it has more equipment than I wanted. I drove the black DCT without add-ons and checked out the white and blue one. This was all a few weeks ago and they were very accomodating.

Got $2,500 off MSRP in the Mid-Atlantic, purchased last week.

I felt that was a fair enough deal.

Someone just posted that 2019 M2 will have S55 engine and start production in June, IF that's true I bet you can get a used N55 based M2 for really-really cheap.
And now I believe Seattle has 7 N55 M2 on the lot, those people are not stupid so they cancel N55 M2 and wait for S55.

No kidding that S55 engine is monster. The bore n stroke is different to N55

LOL, don't be mad at me your regular M2 N55 falls in price.
I was skeptical as well initially when someone says there were SEVEN M2 available at one dealer. Apparently no wait now if you want one.
Hey you bought the car so enjoy it.

I am crawling from under Roundel magazine of last month, read it yourself if you still under the rock, BMW M-division president Frank Van Meel says BMW will build CS version for all M-cars. That means M2 CS if you still don't realize it

I am happy, my 2018 M3 with ZCP priced at $69K with MT while CS M3 only with DCT and practically the same engine is at $100K and I have GTS wheel to boot

Yea.... I don't think you get what he was saying at all.

Wasn't questioning the accuracy of your post, just that the news was released a year ago.

I ordered my M2 at least 2 months after I was aware of the changeover to the "competition" with the much hyped up, farting, S55 engine. The car arrives at my dealer next week.

I am well-acquainted with the N55, a superb engine, being as it is (in less powerful form) in my 135is Convertible, and was in the 135i Coupe that I traded in towards this M2.

Also, perhaps unlike yourself, I don't regard my car purchases as "investments," and I don't give a whole lot of consideration to how quickly this BMW will depreciate. I already know that BMWs depreciate as fast as a chocolate sundae melts on an August afternoon :-) The flip side of this equation is owning cars that are not depreciating, which however you can't drive that much because they are both irreplaceable, and if driven too much lose their value. Ask me how I know about this connundrum?

I'm buying this particular car to drive it, in all conditions, and I really don't care very much what it is worth when I am done with it.

Wow - You mean you're not just buying a car to preserve it for the next owner? Interesting concept...

Never been a fan of the N55 - and I've had two of them (135 and 235).

Always preferred the N54, especially from a tuning perspective.

And the S55 is superior to both of them - it's awesome from a performance standpoint (but not the sound department).

If the intention is to tune and track a car, then the N55 might not be the best engine. I have no interest in doing either, and 365 HP is way more than enough for a car of this size and weight.

If I wanted to tune or track a car, then I'd seriously be considering other cars entirely, for example, Porsches.

The M2s at Seattle BMW are all for sale. None of them are presold. Two of them have been sold in the last week. One of our forum members picked up a grey 6 speed last weekend.

That is correct. The grey one was picked up by me. Others are all available, i test drove two of the others available. One was available in Bellevue as well DCT, MG, with Exec Pkg and Apple Carplay. If some one is interested in DCT, they can probably strike a deal there.
