I don't think that's the case. But maybe the app needs an update to work with the latest istep car software? What works on Pre LCI but not Post LCI?

Hey guys I coded the VLD.... what does it exactly do? Lol. Does it just move more dynamically? Does it have to be high beam? Or is this low beam?

I have 100% coded and think the dazzling/wash out effect is minimal. I'm fine with 100%. If I were going to do it again maybe I'd go 75%. But I don't care enough to change it unless I decide to change a bunch of codes in another session. Even then, I don't think I'll change mine

VLD = variable light distribution
It requires the adaptive headlights, so if you have a 2018 and don't have the hex halos, it won't work for you.

It makes the lights aim downward and to the side when you are driving at lower speeds. Should be 100% safe to other drivers though.

You do NOT want to try to do NGHB (no-glare high beams) with NAR-spec lights, because that can glare oncoming traffic (specific feature in the headlights is missing from US/Canada lights that the rest-of-world lights have).

Cool thank you. That totally helps.👍

Great thread. Coded off ASD last night.

Question: I saw a YT video to put the phone in airplane mode and leave the car running to prevent any interruption. Is that necessary?

Is it true that coding the FEM module many times will eventually damage it? Thanks.

Interested to know this also. Had to re-code mine after the latest I-step update from dealer when they "updated" the instrument cluster.

I've been told that depending on the method, it will crash the module and you'll have to purchase a new one. After repeated codings...

I guess just be cautious on the amount of times you code the FEM. I've been going back and forth with rev match on and off LOL....so I may need to choose one and forget about it.

Our local BMW chapter had a tech session with the service managers at a local dealership. I asked about this, and they said they had never heard of the FEM crashing due to number of programming attempts. The most common issue they said is the vehicle or the coding computer losing power while writing the data, or someone changed the wrong setting. Said to ALWAYS have backups, then make backups of your backups.

Was actually quite fascinating to see the diagnostic equipment they use to determine module faults and how one failing can affect the others. For example, we saw how a short in the stability control module can make your wipers freak out (E90)

And on that note, grabbed the latest E-SYS and files to code my 2018 last night:

Close windows and sunroof from keyfob
Fold mirrors on lock
Unlock door on engine onff
Disable window roll-up door interrupt
Enable brake-force flashing when driving 10+mph
Illuminate exterior door handles in reverse
DISABLE STUPID ACTIVE SOUND (no more drone in Sport+)
Disable legal disclaimer on iDrive and backup camera (one less chime in the mornings)
Re-code 5AP Variable Light Distribution
Re-code 8S4 Anti-dazzle

How did you code the anti-dazzle? I use bimmercode. 2018 LCI.

Interesting. Not hating, but I don't believe anything a dealership says LOL. Hopefully the FEM doesn't crash, but Alex@Alpine mentioned depending on method one way will crash it (I think iCarly will). Not sure on the specifics of bimmercode.

The FEM crash from what I've seen is recoverable with ESYS. That said, coding doesn't manipulate flash counters, most ECU/DME modules have a flash counter limit, that if not bypassed, once you hit the limit you won't be able to flash that module again.

Code away guys! I like the bimmercode for quick coding, but coding/flashing anything without a battery that is at least 80% topped off, or using a power supply is risky. Improper coding could temp brick your module, and without full PSDZ in ESYS you won't be able to recover.

I haven't coded anything on my MY17 for about a year. Can you now code off rev match for a 6mt? Can you turn off the tpms?

Track codes

I coded out the TPMS so I can easily swap wheels/ tires for track days without going into reset/limp mode. Also changed to the Euro M mode to allow the car to be driven more aggressively when not in DSC off mode.

Just ordered my cable and got the Win7 VM up and running. Using this
https://www.bmwesys.com/guides/Begin...e%20Coding.pdf

Seems my car was coded before I owned it, previous owner was BMW UK employee, i-drive disclaimer already off and digital mph already done.

My first attempt will be folding mirrors on lock/unlock
