2016 or 2017, I actually get a choice
Got a call from a dealer who had a guy backout on a 2016 that is already built and on its way, I also have an allocation for an early model year 2017 build. Both cars will have the same specs minus the small upgrades that they are putting into the 2017's, mainly drive and slightly wider tires. Both deals are at MSRP. I am almost certainly going to go with the 2016 but the small upgrades of the 2017 have me thinking. In all likelihood I will just do the 2016 and be driving in early to mid July, a good problem to have. Any thoughts??

Two things, based on Canadian cars:
- MY17 tire size is the same - 245/265 MPSS's. Larger tires were a typo. - iDrive 5.0 will NOT be available for MY17 cars. The 5.0 software upgrade and CarPlay may be available but unconfirmed at this point. IMHO, for us up north, MY16 is the right choice as you avoid the $2,000 price hike for literally no benefit. |

All things being the same the 2017 will retain higher resale if that matters. |

Good point on taking the 17, depreciation has already hit the 16...but 4 yrs over 3 yrs maintenance plan kind of makes it a wash...all about need for your delayed gratification..
I've waited since Jan and mines awaiting shipment....I'd take any color right now over waiting six more weeks.......my 2 cents |

Take the 2017, since the resale is better. Also, BMW engineers have worked out some of the bugs that are associated with 1st year production cars. If you are planning to keep the car for 4 years and you are hard on brakes, then 2016 might be the best choice. Also, prices are the same at this time for both years. I expect in a few months, that the price will go up 2-4%.

Apple carplay would be nice to have! Larger tyres....Why? What's wrong with the tyres now? And you can always fit larger, wider tyres with your next set of tyres. Not? IDrive 5.0....sounds nice to have and curious what updates it will have and if you can retrofit it?

1) BMW announced its availability for all 2 series. Why leave out the M2? 2) There is zero official info from BMW saying it WON'T be in MY 2017 production 3) BMW Genius from hotline # thinks it is possible Make sense? I previously relayed info from a BMW Genius at my dealer who said it was NOT coming. But I suspected he was actually wrong. |

The only change that has me thinking is the larger tires, 10mm wider all the way around which is the same as the M4/3. Having said that I haven't heard of any complaints about the car lacking enough tire.

Not sure if anyone mentioned it but the brakes not being included in the 17 maint plan would DEF make me go with the 16 100%. That's not a cheap job.

If you track your car or get on your brakes a lot, for sure. However, I've never needed them done with 1 E90 58Kmi, 2 F30's 55Kmi each. All three were past maintenance period in miles.
