+1 it wouldn't surprise me at all to be honest.

Shitty...but ///Marketing at its best...

I have extended my 135 lease a few months to make time to get my M235, so I was going to have to buy something different regardless. But I am sure there are people that made the jump to the M235 based on perceptions around the M2 for sure...
Notice Scott hasn't come back to defend his original 4 cylinder claim any more. Lame. We basically got trolled :

Going forward I'll considering anything he says with a huge grain of salt.

Ha ha good find. That is the one I test drove...little did I know I was actually testing the first production M2 and that the 235i badge was only added for stealth!

Or 900 pounds, if you believe the rumors for US weight. 2,600 pounds.

Definitely a small grain of salt - his info has gotten progressively worse as time has gone on.

He is a marketing dude. The marketing people I know like to spin stories of candyland and lollipops. I am more of a realist...

I thought the US weight for the 4C was going to be significantly higher than the rest of the world?

Maybe I am making that up...

It is (he was saying it would be 1500 pounds less than the M235i), it's around 2,100 pounds as tested in the ROW, with 240 hp. The resulting 8.75 lb/hp is a lot more appealing than the 11 that it would be if C&D's (admittingly, not a huge font of knowledge) estimate of 2,650 pounds for the US version is correct. Note that it would be exactly the same as the M235i power to weight at that point.

The manual steering has had mediocre feedback at the lighter weight, I'd imagine adding 500+ pounds of chassis stiffening, bumper supports and who knows what other fluff to the US model certainly won't help that, even if less than half of it ends up on the front wheels.

Your info is pretty much spot on. It's not 100% correct, but pretty close. This much I can confirm, thru (what)my csources at BMW AG have told me.

I just think power numbers will be closer to 360. 1M was 340, they added 20 to the base car and will add 20 to the m car. 360 crank on an n55 is easy.

Would make perfect sense but 1Ms never had 340 at crank as we all know. It is a hugely, politically underrated engine; some say that the car makes 340 at the wheels which imo is closer to truth.

After almost 2.5 years of experience with this car and following everything related to it I take it as a (safely) 360 ps and around 550 nm/400 tq car from factory.

Which is all a small M car needs, M2 included by the way. Weight is more important. M2 has to manage around 1400 kg. weight because 1M was too heavy for its size with 1495 kg. The fact that you don't feel it because of torque monster engine and very quick steering mated to a short wheelbase doesn't mean that it was light enough, it was just light in comparison to E9X M3.

Again, weight is more important for the M2, not the power.

I'm less concerned about the amount of power.

Make it faster than the 1M, slower than the M3/4, M-DCT, M-EPS, lighter than the 1M, handle as well as 1M and available in Sakhir Orange.

When are deposits being taken??

I do not believe this car will get a dct. Probably 6sp manual only like the 1M. There must be differentiation between m3.

Wheelbase length isn't enough for you?

Although I would be completely fine with it being manual only.

I am just going by the precedent that the 1M set.

Realistic thoughts -

6spd only
360-370hp N55
3300 lb curb weight (3200 if a lot of cfrp)
Gets the steering rack from the new m3.

I'd be really disappointed if it was MT only.

Wasn't the 1M designed as a raw driver's car with limited production due to design timeframe?

Hopefully this is mass produced with a gorgeous M-DCT and MT option.

I'll throw money on it that there WILL be DCT. Not only bc the M2 won't be limited, but also bc BMW wants to make that $$$. Expect a charge of $2,900 for it as an option just like the E92.

1M was a hype. M2 is a car many of us are waiting for and BMW knows it. DCT will be an option. You really think BMW is dumb enough to lose it's customers to Audi? Let's be serious here

Let me direct you to the front page spread of the 2er AT in M-guise...

My new selfish fantasies are that BMW goes bust. It's like watching an old girlfriend that let herself go... Better to never see it again and remember the good times

for all the people that even considered an M2 having a 4 cylinder turbo, BMW wouldn't give the 235 a 3.0 L6 and a L4 to the M2 to make more power. the main question should be how much lighter is it going to be than the M4 and how much lower in price. the M4 will most likely be a much better "bang for the buck" , we shall see by the end of april when i get a sneak peak of the M2 at Moto GP.

Why not? BMW have tried everything else like a M3 with V8. What could go wrong this time?

I could see the M2 having 380 hp and probably being around 3200-3300 pounds, I would love a manual transmission I hope they bring it here to the U.S the DCT yeah sure so it can beat the CLA45 amg but if BMW plays his cards right this could be the most anticipated BMW since the 1M.
