Strut nut socket. What size? 18 or 19mm?
These are special 12 point nuts and I can't tell for sure whether I need an 18 or 19mm without buying both online and then returning one. Anyone know from experience. I'm installing camber plates and need this to remove the old ones.

18mm 12 point socket is what you need. Thinner the wall the better so there is no interference with the damper mount.

I just installed the KW HAS kit yesterday. This is an old thread but posting for future reference if anyone is wanting to install those themselves (or have a need to to remove the top of the strut). The socket you need to remove nut holding the strut hat is a 12 point 18mm like others here said (deep socket). The top nut is a 10mm, it is for the shock absorber. You want to be able to turn the 18mm nut for the strut top without moving the 10mm though. There is a special socket that makes this a much easier job, it's the "Schwaben 003046SCH01A-01 Strut Nut Socket (18Mm)". Should run you $15-$25 and it will be used on the front and rear.
Tip for the fronts, loosen them while the strut is still on the car (dont remove all the way, just loosen). Will make it much easier after you have them removed from the car. The torque spec on the front strut pinch bolt is 60 ft/lbs and the front strut tower nut is 25 ft/lbs. The rear upper shock mount nut is 21 ft/lbs and lower shock to trailing arm bolt is 74 ft/lbs. |
