BMW Tow Bar

Has anyone investigated the possibility of adding a tow hitch to the M2? Thinking this might be of interest for transporting track wheels, etc.

I found an OE tow hitch listed for the 2-series and wondered if it might work with the M2. I remember reading BMW doesn't recommend or certify the M cars for towing which would explain it not being listed as an M2 part. I realize that the exhaust setup may preclude a fit as well.

Any opinions appreciated.

I have doubts of that fitting since the rear bumper and sub frame are different. track wheels can fit in the back seats no problem.

I'm investigating it right now with a Curt hitch. I'll keep you posted. My car won't hold my tires and tools together.

Probably better off trailing the car on a trailer and renting a truck to pull it for track weekends.

Please do! That would be fantastic for the track, as well as for a bicycle rack I use with my miata.

I can see if I can get my car up on my lift tomorrow at some time and take a bunch of pictures from the back under my car. If its of any help to you, here are some of the pics of the rear under bits of my old M235i, and I do have to say its VERY differen't under there, so it may not be possible to do, but I'll try my best to help you out in this case. Just posting any shots I got of the rear of the car, some might be helpful and some might not be, but I'll all of what I got just to be on the safe side.

One thing I do know that is quite different is the heat shielding and how the diffuser connects to it, not sure if thats part of what would interfere with the mounting of the tow hook.

Right now the 944 is up on the lift being worked on, but I'll see if I can move stuff around and get it up on there. I do need to take the BMS intake off my M2 as it gave me a check engine light within about 20 miles of driving, while it never once bothered my M235i and ran for 2 years no issues with it. So that gives me an excuse to get it into the garage and up on the lift.

You will be AMAZED at just how different the cars are seen from the bottom, it looks as if its a completely different car, and is fully deserving of the F87 chassis code vs the F22 of my old M235i. So I'm probably 50/50 on thinking if this can be done just going off what I remember it looking like when I had it up on the lift the other day. Should have taken some pictures then but I was sorta in a rush to get a few things taken care of.

I was actually looking into this so I could transport my mountain bike. Since chassis is a f87 which is based on the f82 I was searching on the M4 forum and there was a post saying it's not possible. If anyone figures out how to get this done I'm interested.

It's really the F22 chassis with the extra bracing and subframes/suspension/diff/transmission of the F80/82. The wheelbase is significantly different.

Per RealOEM, the instructions are in EBA 2231917. Googling BMW EBA didn't yield any leads to obtaining the document. Anyone have a source for EBAs?

The thing is under the f87 it's more f82. Inside the car is more f22.

Heres the images I was able to take while installing my M Performance diffuser, not sure if they will really be of any help but its the best I could do.

Without having removed the exhaust like I did in the last shots it was way harder to get a good picture of what was under there, Mostly was able to get pics of where the exhaust hangers are and how the subframe mounts on one side.

After looking at that I'm pretty doubtful that it would work with an M2 with what I saw under my car.
