Recently drove a couple of CPO 981s, 997.2, and 991.1 C2Ses, and didn't feel it was worth what they're asking for an ~10 year old car that was hardly more fun than the 987.2 I dumped a year before. None of the newer Porsches made me want to give up my 944.
Talked to my local dealers about ordering a Supra, Cayman S, or G87 M2. Saw pricing and "potential" for an ADM and nope-ed out. Tried an F87 and (comp or otherwise) they're truly special IMO, which is why I gave my dad my 330ci and added one to my garage.

Yeah the pricing for the M2 Competition, for what you get, approaches the absolute best in the enthusiast world right now. IMO.
I have a 718 Boxster GTS 4.0, and it's a great car. Perfect in fact. But I could literally get two M2Cs for what I paid for it, and I didn't even suffer through an ADM. The M2 CS is also great, and I probably would have one right now if when I went to look at one, it didn't have obvious signs of abuse (and a terrible PPF job). But I think the cost is too high to justify, although it seems you could get one below $100k at the moment. I think over time you can make money on them, but for what else you could get for $100k (a used 718 GTS 4.0), the CS makes less sense. The FL5 Civic Type R would truly be a bargain- but you can't get one at MSRP. I actually reached out to a dealer with one on the lot and they came back with $60k, minus whatever other add ons they'd want me to pile on. No thanks, not for a civic. The old one makes sense from a cost perspective but I personally can't get past the looks. Looks like the manual Supra may be looking at similar markups, but would definitely be a worthy consideration if one could be had at MSRP. The auto Supra is a bargain at this point, if having a manual isn't a prerequisite. I was really hoping for more from the new Z, but I'm no longer interested. (sidenote- if Nissan could ever bring themselves to bring a worthy successor to the Silvia/240SX to market, THAT would have my attention...). The 997.2 is very, very interesting- but a recent surge in pricing has made them too ridiculous to consider. You can't really find a nice S for less than $75k, and that's just too much, no matter how well they've aged. The 991.1 IMO isn't as desirable as the 997.2. I don't like the styling as much, the steering and manual shifter are crap by Porsche standards, and the 991.1 is the delineation where the 911 starts to feel "like a GT car". At least relative to other Porsches... which in turn doesn't justify the asking price. The 991.2 fixes all the things that IMO were wrong with the 991.1 (with rear axle steering), and has started to return to sanity and you can get a nice one for around $100k again, but that's almost twice as much as an M2C... I've had the 4 cylinder 718 as well and it just didn't completely work for me. Mine was a GTS. It was a fantastic car no doubt, but I couldn't get past the engine. Maybe the base or S models make more sense, but at $75k+ for a GTS, the engine just doesn't bring enough character to warrant that kind of cash. Everything else about the car is epic though, so it's not like it's a bad buy. If you happen to like the engine note, which some people do, then you'll be very happy- but for me it's not just the tone of the flat 4, it's the power delivery. The G87 is actually compelling, but again- ADM is going to ruin everything. I'm not interested in paying $80k+ for an M2. It really comes down to the M2 Comp, at $60k or so, being the best bang for the buck out there. |

I have no problem getting a G87 allocation @ MSRP out of my two local dealers. However, I haven’t driven the car yet and I’m still not worried about it, if I decide to buy one, it will be at MSRP… Anyone who can’t buy one for MSRP… do yourself a huge favor and find yourself another dealer !
