Hi guys, I'm back...

Had an M2c on order, but was able to get a 2018 M2 LCI at invoice and in the color I had always wanted, MG. Hope I don't regret this.

Great price, great color. Congrats to you. Not sure who is going to keep the M2C forum moving along now in your absence.

Gorgeous E36M3 in that pic.. i had one too; most fun I ever had with a car, thanks to supercharging and intercooling it, along with loads of other stuff. Replaced my stock rims with Fikses.. Yum... Miss it.

Thanks. That's funny, I remember your build threads from many years ago! You were definately the SME on forced induction.

what lead to your decision?

what factors did you weigh in your head, between the pros and cons, that tilted the scales towards OG M2?

Listed in order of importance.

Pros

  • s55
  • Stiffer front end.
  • 2NH fade free brakes (so they say)
  • M Seats (only in front)
  • M Mirrors
  • M1/2 buttons
  • Front PDC

Indifferent
  • Exhaust. Heard a US spec M2c in person, it's loud, but has a different tone. I like the M2 exhaust tone better, but the M2c wasn't as bad as I thought and it actually surprised me.
Cons
  • Weight. Still irritates me that's it's gained 150-lbs.
  • Colors, don't get me started on this!
  • Cost. Between an M2 LCI at invoice and a M2c at MSRP the premium just wasn't worth it for me. Everyone's situation is different on this, I couldn't justify the cost. Had they been closer in cost I would have gone with the M2c with its warts and all.
  • 788M are fugly, they really let they look of the entire car down. We in the US can't get the 437M's.
  • Muffler hangs low, really sticks out like a sore thumb. If you paint it flat black it should be OK. Can always get a new exhaust (in US at least).
  • Suspension. There was misleading info from BMW that the entire suspension had been retuned and that the rear had new ball joints. Turned out they didn't retune any of the suspension, a car that weighs 150-lbs more (90-lbs of that up front, worse weight distribution) yet still has the same spring/damper rates.
  • Oil cooler located under the front bumper, just like the M3/4's. Terrible engineering IMO, #wcpgw?

Let me be the first to break the bad news...you are going to regret it, and I wish you'd asked us sooner.

Since I got my LBB LCI, I find myself sitting in the garage staring at it, letting precious time slip away...and coming up with new excuses to go drive someplace, like discovering that a trip to the drugstore is necessary because the bottle of Vitamin C is 1 day past expiration...and I'm letting my personal hygiene suffer and showering less because I don't want to bring the key into the shower and risk getting it wet. My life is turned upside down, and it's all because of that stupid, beautiful car.

Little anecdote that may help...we just got the car in for its 1200 mile service. And upon check-in at the dealer, we hand over the key and the SA walked away to the car to check the odometer. As he starts it and the engine burbles, we overheard him say out loud to himself "that never gets old".

He's right, too. Every tunnel we encounter brings the same response from my wife...windows go down, sunroof opens up, she requests I drop it into 3rd and hammer it, just so she can hear the N55 sing.

Congrats!!

(BTW...just my non-professional-racer opinion, but not sure why this car needed a stiffer front end, unless it's simply to compensate for the extra weight that's now up front. I've not tracked the car, but I have thrown it into curves and on/off ramps at what-was-I-thinking near triple-digits speeds and this car just hunkers down and hangs on like a scared cat on shag carpeting. If I made a list of the things this car could use, "stiffer front end" wouldn't be on the list).

Congrats on your purchase! I just watched a full review of the M2C. It's a nice car, and since it's an M2; I do like it. A lot of the stuff this particular reviewer talked about being new is in fact also on the LCI M2. Mainly when he talked about the interior.

The main stuff about the M2C I like is the mirrors and seats, with the latter being what I like the most. The S55 engine is cool, but was never something I really wanted, since the N55 as enough power for me.

The N55 being open-deck vs closed on the S55 doesn't matter to me because I know I will never push my car hard enough for that to matter. I suspect this will be the case for most people. I also don't plan on doing any tuning.

I think you made a great decision, especially getting the car at invoice.

Nothing to regret here unless you’re the type that spends a boatload of time at the track.

Congrats !

Great choice on the MG! The M2 wears this color excellently. It brings out the hips and the sharp creases in a way that comes across very elegantly. When you see this color on a normal bmw it doesn’t have the same impact, there is something about the combination of the curves and the color that work well together.

It has a confident aggressiveness about it that is undeniable but doesn’t seem like it’s shouting in your face or demanding excessive attention. Any doubt about the car’s capabilities are quickly put to rest once you hear the exhaust barking away.

In many ways it reminds me of the DB5 from Goldfinger. Understated from the outside yet full of surprises on the inside. That is what I really love about this color on the M2. You won’t regret a thing

Huge congrats.

I had a choice between M2C at MSRP or 2018 LCI in AW with 6 speed manual, sunroof, Phone and Adaptive headlights packages at 5K off discount (around 7%).

I'm picking up my 2018 LCI next week.
