Potential LCI Instrument Cluster Issue

My MY18 is currently at the NJ port VPC and the release has been delayed. Here is some interesting info from my CA:

"........the hold up on the release of your car is there could be an issue with the digital instrument cluster but the good news is they announced that there is a software upgrade that has to be done to the cars before they can be released and the "sold" vehicles will get priority so we should see your car end of this week or start of next week."

Anyone else hear anything about this?

Yes, I got the same story when I called the "Genius" line yesterday. My car is held up there too.

Interesting, curious to see if this turns into a campaign for other cars.

My 2018 M2 is being held at the VPC in Brunswick for the same recall. My car arrived at the port on 10/30.

Very interesting, sounds like a widespread issue. I haven't noticed anything with my '18 cluster, wonder what the software update is for...

I'm curious as to what the issue is too. My '18 cluster has been working fine as far as I know.

I was just discussing this in the other post about this in the recall section of these forums. I've spoken with two reps and my own sales associate. The patch just isn't ready yet, they said it could take 2-3 weeks worst case. My M2 is parked, sitting there (with ~1660 other BMWs) a thousand miles away, waiting for me to drive it. The concern is this "The display may not wake up from standby mode or may not indicate operating conditions and warning symbols as required."

I just called the BMW 'Genius' line 25 mins ago and the guy told me there IS a software fix available, and that my car shouldn't be held up much longer, though he couldn't give an estimate until it clears the VPC. Just came off the ship Thursday and I first called for a status on Monday.

According to the 'Genius' I spoke to, it's a voluntary programming recall that applies to "certain" 2018 2er coupes and convertibles. He was unable to give a specific build window/timeframe though.

You wouldn't get a call before it gets to port and arrives at the VPC; actually, you probably won't get a call anyway but you may get this information once it arrives if you ask (or if you have a very proactive CA). Hopefully whatever backlog of cars exists will clear and you won't even notice any delay.

Awesome. I'm assuming this affects all NA cars, not just USA cars?

I mean, I've only been waiting over 400 days at this point (car is finally at the port in Halifax)...what's another 14 days. Will probably have 2 feet of snow on the ground by then...won't be able to drive it anyway.

You’re crazy and the new LCI gauges are analog.

I actually interpreted that to mean he liked the analog gauges of the new cluster, but maybe I was wrong.

I was notified this morning the VPC completed the recall repair. Next step is redelivery confirmation from the Performance Center in SC.

Good news. Hopefully they can move through the backlog quickly. My dealer is only 30 miles away from the VPC.

Analog looking maybe, but they sure seem digital in the videos I have seen.

Now that I think of it, mine occasionally lags at startup. Like the car is started and idling and the rpm is still at 0 and the display stutters for a second and then the needles shoot up to the right rpm

Mine seems to be moving through now too. My CA just let me know the dealer ETA is Monday 11/20.

The new (LCI) cluster is still using analog(ue) gauges ("clocks," for our UK friends).
They are not all-digital!

Sorry for the font and bold, but I see this all over these forums and it's getting so old. Nothing against strato58, he just happened to be the most recent "offender."

They just look like an LCD due to the white on black, but they aren't.

The only portion that is digital is a rectangle that starts between the gauges and goes down to the bottom edge, and then across to the right below the tachometer (where the efficientdynamics MPG meter thing is displayed).

Everything else is standard analog gauges or LED-lit cutout-style indicators, just like the pre-LCI car.

[edit] Now that I've read the rest of the thread I see that others have already covered this... but I typed it all up so I'm leaving it here.
