My E92 M3 had this problem all the time. Filling it slow helped but the dealer replaced something. I think it was a vapor return or something to that effect, never had that problem again. Fast or slow fill, regardless how full or empty the tank was.

My M2 did this once only and I thought right away it is the same issue as the M3. If it comes up more frequently I'll ask my service adviser to take a look at it.

My m235i did this a few times but I believe it was the specific pumps at certain stations having issues as opposed to the car. Haven't had this issue for over a year since I moved area.

geogerf if you have the flow shutoff happen while you are holding the pump then it's very likely that it's caused by your angle of the dangle. specifically, I would recommend that you back the pump nozzle out of the fuel filler neck on the car about an inch or two. No need to jam that baby in there .. it's a car not your girlfriend
