At this point there has been no confirmation yet of the possibility of LCI instrument cluster swap for Pre LCIs.

But I noticed this: our Pre LCI instrument cluster looks much better (at least to me) when turning into red & white two tone. Below are the comparison pictures two tone vs. full red. The pictures don't do it justice IMO.

Any way possible thru coding we can replace full-red with two-tone when in dark?

I'm not 100% sure but it seems to show when ambient lighting isn't too strong (which turn it off completely) and isn't too dark (which turns on full red) either.

Unfortunately can't do pics now, at work. But to explain, the auto lights have two stages, which mirror the settings on the headlight switch on the left side of the driver:

1) When it's dusk but still light enough out, they turn on but aren't projecting a long beam (first setting on the headlight switch, two small headlight symbols)

2) When it gets dark enough they turn on fully and start projecting the low beam (second setting on headlight switch, one large headlight symbol with beam pointing down)

If you're sitting in your car, go through the setting in the headlight selector switch and you'll see as they change.

Yeah, now I get you, you were explaining when it shows what. But i was trying to find a way of completely replacing full red with red/white

I haven't figure it out yet...I am sure there's some coding wizardry that can do it though, but it's above my pay-grade haha

No confirmation?
There are a lot of swaps made already. Works just fine.

One thing that I don't think anyone has commented on yet, is that the LCI cluster looks a bit silly in direct sunlight. It's now autumn, and low direct sun is common here in California at this time of year.

The LCI cluster is a well lit traditional cluster behind a tinted front panel, which sort of looks like it's floating out of nothing normally. In direct sunlight however, you can see through the tinted cover, and see the needles and the shadows created by the fake shaping of the front cover etc. Doesn't look that good at all to me; the pre-LCI probably looks a lot better in this situation.

Details please...

Though I think I pre LCI two tone cluster would be best if it's possible thru coding.

You can actually solder white smd's on the speedo anywhere you want (speedo, rpm, fuel)

There's a few DIY's for the old 1 series that showed this

Also found a guy in the UK that did these conversions and had some pictures posted up

It doesn't sound really hard tbh but have never soldered so idk

Thanks for the suggestion. But it sounds beyond me and nobody that I know did this...

Coding or LCI swap would be preferred options so far, though that leave it as is isn't unacceptable either.

@BimmerCode Appreciate if you look at this? Buy your software in a heartbeat if this is code-able.
