Moving from 435 to M2??

I pulled the trigger on an M2 last night that is a 36 week build and will be giving up my 435 GC. Believe it or not I have not seen an M2 in person, only pics. My only concern is the size differences. Anyone make a similar switch and have regrets?

Front space is comparable. Rear passengers cannot be seen as they suffer and thus are irrelevant. If the lower budget interior of the 2 series doesn't offend you, you'll love the extra character of the car. Sit in any m235/40i and you'll feel 95% the same as an m2.

I understand there is a bit of a downgrade in interior and my GC is one of the few with a leather dashboard. I am hoping the fun factor makes the interior change irrelevant.

I went from a F30 335 to the M2 and prefer the M2 as it is smaller and tighter. Apart from the leather dashboard you can get in the 3er and 4er there is no difference in interior quality to speak of, it is just a bit tighter everywhere (space wise). The engine is the same so that won't impress you but the handling will which makes it 350 % more fun to drive. I rarely have more than one person with me at the time so not an issue for me but it isn't e people hauler for sure.

No regrets at all.

Funny how everyone views the M2 as a smaller car, I did too until it was parked next to my 95 E36 M3, the M2 was huge next to it. All about perspective and perception.

#1 congrats, you won't regret it. I bought the M2 sight unseen but I test drove the 235i and the 435i. The 435 feels like a boat compared to the nimble 2 series.

My M2 is 50 kg heavier than my four door M3 E36. Amazingly though it doesn't feel that heavy at all.

M2 is a much more involved driving experience over the 3. That alone is worth the price of entry. To give some perspective, the M2 is closer to the M3 than it is to the 335/340. What you give up is some comfort and interior size. The finish isn't much of a step down from the 3 series, though it is a step down from the M3. The front is comparable in size, but the back seat is smaller.

Personally, I would not choose a 340 or 240 over an M2, and I used to own a 235 and have driven the 335 a fair amount. You will like the M.

I went from a 435 to a M2. You will enjoy the changes.

I would add I do miss my HUD, my LED headlights and sunroof. I tracked the 435 twice and the lower roof was an issue with the sunroof however.

Doc,

I had a '14 435xi 6MT that I loved for 3 years. Last week I finally got my '17 LBB 6MT M2. The differences are everything that I was missing in the 435. With the wide hips, the M2 is the same width as the 435 but about a foot shorter. I pulled into my garage and was confused about all of the extra space.

I LOVE that the car is smaller, because it doesn't feel any smaller! The front space is very similar (have not sat in the back yet) but seems comparable. The cars holds the road much much better, turns are graceful and the stick is like butter. I was not a fan of all of the carbon fiber interior, so the cosmetic mods I made were SS pedals, alcantara package and the MPerf steering wheel. The steering wheel is great if you have big hands (or prefer a bigger wheel) and the new idrive is pretty nice.

Otherwise it is very similar but 1000x better. See my interior in the attached pic.

The only downside would be if you log a lot of time / miles on the highway. Otherwise M2 will put a smile on your face.

The only regret you will have is that you didn't switch sooner.

I went from a 435d to an M2 and have never looked back. I was initially wary about trim/interior level, thinking why would I go from a 4'er to a 2'er? but hey, once I saw an M2 in the flesh and had my first test drive I was 100% sold.

The M2 makes you want to take the long way home, every day! Enough said.

Funny. In the other thread guys were saying there's virtually no difference between the M240i and the M2.

All it takes is one drive and the difference between an M Sport and a proper M is easily felt. It's more than just an engine.

I bet most comments claiming there is no differences were made by the m240i drivers.

Anyone saying there is no difference has not driven them both or is trying to justify the M240. In my humble opinion, of course.

Exactly all this.

Its very simple, get both cars up on a four poster and walk underneath and take a look. One is built like a race car, the other is not.

Thats the difference.

looks like a spaceship beside a 435's or 240i's dull lines. Size is comparable...dont let that guy fool you. The backseat can sit 2 6ft+ adults without their heads touching the ceiling. It is due to this divet in the roof that allows for about 2-3 inches of extra headroom in the back (also maybe saved the engineers some weight??)

its a proper sports car. youll never look back. you'll actually laugh at this thread when you take delivery
