LCI price increase and standard equipment
My 18 month wait is due to come to an end in 2 - 3 weeks. It's partly my fault as I elected to put off a june delivery so as to get the LCI - what's an extra 3 months when you've already waited so long eh ? And when you've got a Minichamps 1:18 to play with in the meantime.
I've got a meeting with my salesman on friday morning to go over the final bill and to order a few M-Performance goodies such as alcantara steering wheel, black kidneys, side gills and CF rear spoiler. I know I'm going to take a hit for the price increase on the LCI coz I can see on the French BMW site that the price has increased by € 2200 since I ordered mine in april 2016. He's hinted that he'll apply the same 6% discount that I originally obtained but even so it's quite a lot of extra money to have to put down. So my question is whether I can argue that any options which had to be paid for in the pre-LCI have now become standard and therefore I can try to recoup some money. My car is pretty fully loaded. I know the answer is very dependant on country but if anyone can give me some suggestions I can look into it in more detail in my country. Thanks ! My configuration: Manual LBB Moon roof Pack safety Harman Kardon Reversing camera Heated front seats Connected drive Speed limit indicator DAB radio Lumbar support Internet Additional 12 v. socket plus all the usual standard stuff.

Since you insisted to move from a 17 to a 18 I'd say it wouldnt make sense to give you the 17 price.
In Sweden we had an increase in march 2017 and one in july 2017, I ordered in January 2017 and dont have to pay any of the increases since I didnt knew I would get a 2018 lci one.. Be happy with the LCI that you wanted =). |

This is what happened to me -
I'm in Australia, I ordered end of Jan this year and I told the dealer I'd wait for the LCI. And I didn't get much discount back then. The LCI here had a price increase of AU$400, while some standard stuff became options (Alarm, Lumbar Support, and Seat Heating), which adds almost another AU$2000 to the price tag. And my salesman honoured the price that I signed for. So I guess maybe you can try push him to offer you the 17' price. Last edited by nick_stp; 09-12-2017 at 05:55 PM.. Reason: To clarify it's AU$ |

In the US, I signed onto the wait list before '16 even entered production. Waited for a year and ended up getting one of the first '17 models which carried a slight price increase. I paid the '17 price. Of course this was almost a year ago and supply has somewhat increased since then. Bottom line, I think you should try to get the '17 price but it may be tough if the supply in your country is still low. As an alternative maybe try to push the dealer lower on the M performance parts. Those carry a high profit margin.
If your budget allows, you could also offer to buy more M performance parts in return for deeper discount. |

Heated front seats and Lumbar support are now options, really? The only item I thought would include additional cost would be the Moonroof? Or, has all the other stuff been bundled into the executive pkg?

My MY17 was flipped to a MY18 by BMW and they honored the MY17 price which I think in the US was ~$1,100 in base + exec package savings. |

You're a mountain drive girl. If not stock: seriously consider to get the 'Adaptive Head Lights' for comfortably getting around the corners from dusk till dawn. That way you'll get the newly designed coronas.
Also get the 'High Beam Assist' if not stock: one of my favorite options. Cool to see the lights constantly recreating the 'Wall Of Light', zapping and swiveling all over the road, 'blocking off' parts of the road and cars ahead of you, and lighting up those parts again once you passed. What options did you skip ? Heated steering wheel: consider it if you dislike a cold steering wheel (cold mornings, driving with open windows and moonroof). It's comfortable/cosy. Lukewarm/warm, but definitely not 'hot' (please note that you lose that function if you replace the steering wheel with the M Performance steering wheel (not wired) - you only get it back when you retrofit your original steering wheel). "Chrome-Line Exterior": I understand that you skip this; I also prefer the Shadowline exterior trim. Privacy glass: makes it more difficult for prying eyes and keeps the heat a bit better out. If you get the (dark) moonroof, also consider getting this. Comfort access: keep your keys inside your purse. I never use my keys. Apple CarPlay: not applicable if you don't have Apple gear. Internet: got it on mine but never used it. Inactive as soon as the car moves. Better use your smartphone. BMW apps: yawn...

Thank you all for your kind input ! Adaptive headlights and high beam assist are part of the standard options here. I skipped the heated steering wheel coz I'm ordering the M-Perf one with blue strip. I also skipped comfort access, sun protection glazing as it's for rear windows only and I intend to get a full UV protection later on so as to avoid getting burned on the left side of my face. Don't need privacy glass since I never do anything I shouldn't be doing inside my car
As Isty from Sweden says, I think there were also 2 price increases, in march and july 2017. If so I intend to avoid paying the march one since the car was supposed to arrive in june. Logically I should pay the july one since I opted to wait beyond that time. Isty, do you know what those price increases were individually ? Interestingly the French BMW site shows the car as being from € 63,950 whereas the BMW Germany site shows it as being from € 59,500 but that's probably due to different configuration. So what sort of discount do you all think I should aim for when ordering M-Performance goodies ????

In Sweden both increases were 17 000 SEK EACH which translates to 1 800 euros each. Good luck with your dealer! Atleast you should get 1800 euros back. |

I'd shoot for 20% off and free install on M perf parts. Lots of US based sites with that discount. You may be able to find similar online parts discounts in France. Your dealer would still be making plenty of profit.

Carplay is useless because you have to use Apple Maps. Plus you can always add it later in most regions (probably yours too).
Get comfort access. It's the best. Not sure I want to go to another car without it or automatic wipers. |

Haven't used the auto wipers enough on the M2 to have an opinion yet, but on the X1 they can be a bit annoying. Maybe it's me not fully understanding them yet? Sometimes they don't make sense. |

Wow, you can say that again. In the US We had a $700 increase in March which affected me. Not sure what the July increase was here, but I don't believe it was that much, although maybe more than the March one?

Well I had mixed results from my meeting with the dealer ! I tried to persuade him to remove the april price increase since my car wasn't due to be delivered until june but he wouldn't have any of that. So bang went € 2200 in price increase. He gave me 10% off the M-Performance stuff I ordered. He made a point of phoning a colleague in the after sales service and asked what the profit margin was on M-Performance items. The colleague told him 10 %. I laughed and replied that I was sure it was way, way higher but he swore it was 10% ! So my car is going to cost a total of € 82,791 which is $ 98,827 !!! € 10,000 of that is pollution tax and € 11,224 is VAT. Delivery is 3 october.

Are they actually getting it, or just asking for it...? No one should be paying over MSRP at this point, not even in Cali...
