The being said it's such a small amount, I think without a case I'll be fine, might put a small case on and hope for the best. Can always take off when i charge. |

I assumed the wireless charging was in the front console near the cupholders like in the newer BMW.
I was watching the MotoManTV review of the M2c and I see now why he was struggling to get the wireless charging to work. Anyway, is it easy to remove the wireless part from inside the armrest? I rather use the space for other stuff. |

I was able to break the cradle during installation. The cables were tight inside the cradle and I broke off one of the leads for the coax. I can solder it back, but I don't want to do that in the car. I have seen plenty of pictures of the cradle and cables so I can see that the sockets aren't far away, but I have seen conflicting posts and cannot tell if the sockets are in front of the shifter or behind the console, by the rear heat vent, I assumed they were in the front of the car (based on the way the cable comes out of the cradle, so I removed the cover and idrive controller (right of the shifter. I loosened the shifting boot (6MT) and removed the button panel to the left of the shifter. I found 2 Torx screws, which I removed, but I cannot get anything to budge. (Many years ago, I learned that if you f**k something up, it is best not to make it worse trying to fix your mistake. Can anyone provide any guidance before I am forced to throw myself on the mercy of the dealer and listen to the lecture on the dangers of weekend mechanics

the wireless charger is a total POS... it overheats the phone while charging at a dead slow speed... this results in extremely slow and unresponsive performance

Wireless Charger Mods?
Prior to getting the M2C, I was actually pretty happy about it having the Wireless Charger in it, as part of the Exec Pack.
Except it's utterly useless, (can't fit phones that aren't from 2009, and based on what I've read about it, it's great as a phone warmer) and doesn't actually do any sort of decent charging. Has anyone done any mods to the armrest console, either by taking the wireless charging unit out entirely to just use the console for putting stuff in or is there a mod that can somehow actually make the wireless charger useful? |

What issues are you having, and what phone do you have? I hardly use mine because its in the center console, and I have to remove my case which also houses my ID and credit cards, but the few times I've used it, it has been ok. Isn't the fastest charger, but it does the job and my phone isn't too hot.
I suppose if you have those "Max" versions, they dont fit? |

I've been using it to thaw frozen meat. Gets nice and hot especially using Waze.
It fits the standard phone sizes, but not the "max" type of models, so it takes longer for cuts like an 18oz bone-in ribeye, but it's decent on a 12oz. |

I've seen that thread where you can modify the "spring bar" part but the whole process just looks overcomplicated tbh. Hell, I wonder if I can just remove that spring bar so I can just sit my phone in it and it still charge, but I'm going to assume that part is essential for the system to activate the charging process. Right now I'm putting my phone in the area by the cup holders, but it tends to move around a lot while I drive. Thinking I'll just get a vent phone mount for now, which I honestly don't really prefer. LMAO! |

Yeah, this was an issue when I first realized the size. It does not fit my max iPhone. Surprised there has not been a BMW upgrade to this piece as I'm sure it can be easily disassembled.
I'm so use to have an in-car wireless charger on the new X5

There was a thread about a year ago where someone posted a model that you could 3-D print to extend it for new(er) phones. Some disassembly is required inside the armrest console but it looked to be a good fix. I think this is it:

I was in the exact same position. I use my smaller iphone(work phone) for my carplay, and my bigger Android is my personal phone. I imagined it would be great to jump in the car, put my iphone in the charging port and be done with it.
But as many have said, it overheats the phone, to the point where i dont feel its safe. And it doesnt charge as fast as me just plugging it in. At this point i dont use it at all which is a bit of a disappointment. |

I had the 3D printed bracket to allow it to fit my phone.
It kept getting snagged as I tried to retract it back. Finally broke. Put back the stock one, never really used it anyways. |

You can modify the charger to your heart's content but the charger is still a pile of steamy crap...
It will overheat just about any phone (especially if you are actively using it for carplay or streaming music) and will charge your phone in close to 10 hours. BMW should have never allowed this junk into the car... it clearly went thru no QC... if someone has advice on how to remove it to make more glovebox room; i am all ears. |
