M2 vs ATS-V Sedan

The one minor issue I have with my 135is and proposed upgrade to M2 is lack of back doors on the few occasions I have passengers. I have been considering proper options. I like the RS3 but impossible to find, I like the S3 but probably would need some sort of tune on it. I’m not really interested in Lexus or Infiniti. And some of the Mercedes models look garish on the inside in my opinion.

I could maybe do an M3 sedan but considering Cadillacs depreciate more than normal, I’m thinking I could pick up an ATS-V or possibly CTS-V used at a decent discount. Thoughts?

The ATS (incl V) has a tiny truck and, worse, a tiny backseat - it wouldn't be nice to put ppl you like in the back seat of one.

Get a used M3. New ones are highly discounted so a used one should be affordable.

They are in Seattle. Here is a link to one: https://www.bmwnorthwest.com/new/BMW...922482f9bf.htm

Well it's not my cup of tea, but it's not bad looking and back seat looks spacious enough...

Have you considered Swapalease? If we hadn't gone the M2 route, this is what we'd have done. There are so many people who either want to get something new and still have a year or so left on their current lease, or they're in financial distress and just need out. Plenty of M3 sedans available, plenty of Cadillacs, and everything else you can think of. Even having to absorb any disposition fee, or even a set of tires for turn-in, you're still out far less money than a full lease or purchase commitment and you get to "try" cars for short durations of 6-12 months to finish out their lease.

I have no affiliation, just throwing out the idea. If you can't make up your mind and don't want a big commitment to something.

I have looked at swapalease a few times, but it always seems like they are just trying to transfer the screwjob they got to you. People asking exorbitant down payments with practically no miles left. Unless things have changed, I probably won't go back.

You should check out the for sale thread on my wife's old S3! I've got a local guy who's a pain in the ass that I'm relevant to sell it to since he wants it for his teenager, so would rather sell to a fellow enthusiast. PM me for any details if it's something that grabs your interest!

If you want the RS3 get the RS3. Can't be difficult to find. Autotrader claims more than 40 within 200 miles of you, and you could order it.

You mean V series is better? Just because the ATS-V and CTS-V are faster doesn’t make them better.

I actually saw a CTS Vsport and really kind of like it. It’s obviously one of those cars, like anything else, you either like or don’t like. I haven’t driven one but mag ride, if as nice as in the Audi, I’m sure that will make it very nice.

handling, power, braking, the V is better

you cant compare a car with magnetic filled dampers with traditional dampers lol, you can spend all the money you want on blisteins, KW, etc they will never out perform magneride which is patented by GM

I got my M2 for the looks only not performance

Not only that but has way more room than an M3.

I was looking at Vsports, which is one step below a full V. It’s very nice. You guys aren’t making it easy for me lol.

Only way to find out is to test drive an ATSV and a CTSV to really get the best idea. Cadillac has come very very far and is a Beast on the track!

It is just another way to actively control the compression and rebound characteristics of dampers. If it were 100% better in all ways it would be used by all top performance cars. It's licensed from Delphi not GM and used by Ferrari in some cars and Ford in the GT350, so clearly anyone can have it if they want to pay. Porsche, of note, does not use it and is routinely credited with the best suspension setups in the industry. GM also doesn't use it in the hardcore ZL1 1LE. McLaren does not use this technology either and they are at the forefront of everything else. I would bet that this technology has some disadvantages compared to more conventional / competing systems. If not it would have proliferated through the entire industry like DFI.

GM owns Delphi, I was using the comparison with BMW specifically, , Magneride outperforms all of BMWs suspension setups, look at the C7 Z06 track times, look at the 2009 CTS V Nurburgring time
