Stealth. That's a word or concept under-represented in this discussion.

My (admittedly personal and perhaps unrepresentative) opinion is that the M2 doesn't make sense as an exhibitionist-type car. The more ornaments you hang on this Christmas tree, the less attractive it becomes.

I have owned at least one exhibitionist car (Subaru STi, long gone) and still own another one (2003 Porsche 911 TT with an aftermarket GT2 type wing, put on it by the former owner. I defanged the STi before accepting delivery by having the wing amputed, because it attracted too much attention. My 996TT also attracts too much attention, but I sort of like the way it looks so I put up with it, but I'm careful where I take it and where I park it.

The M2 should be the type of car that passes you at 99 mph and only afterwards does it dawn on you what it is. Once you gaudy it up with a bunch of unneeded crap, it is no longer a stealth cruiser. It loses something in the process.

My M2 is coming in 2-3 weeks. I'm going to put black grills on the front and sides, at minimal cost, but that's all I would do to one of these things. Just my opinion.

Goes to my point about perspective. Go visit a track and you will find aero on most of the cars. It's for function. Not for exhibition.

One could say buying a m car as a DD is purely exhibition? Or driving 99mph on a public street?

You are certainly entitled to your opinion on that matter, and we may agree or disagree on that, but I don't think the OP was trying to make a statement/opinion on the fairness of the asking price - maybe just pointing out that it was super-loaded with options.

PS - you also stated that the MSRP without those add-ons would have been $60,795, which was incorrectly based on the recent base price increase to $54,500, whereas the car in question was built prior to that price increase, as shown on its window sticker with the previous base price of $53,500.
Don't get an attitude with me because I'm trying to stay on what I believe is the topic.

"very expensive" and "has a lot of options" are not synonyms. We can prove this because there would be zero conversation if the topic was about "this car has a lot of options" It would go something like "no shit" and that be the end of it.

Conversely, every comment both before and after mine (including yours) has been about rationalizing it's price, worth, or value.

However, in the event that I did misunderstand the topic and the conversation is meant to be about the car having a lot of options and not about discussing it's price or the value of the options, then please continue the conversation without discussing those things. However, doing so would prove me correct.

This conversation is getting off topic.

My point was that this M2 is so loaded with M Performance options that it is approaching the price of an M3 or M4. I think this car is going to sit on the lot for quite a while.

I don’t know if anyone would order a car this optioned.

Ok, I misunderstood then. My apologies. I agree, I'm not sure why dealers order with that many options.

Not sure how you're reading an alleged attitude from my words - there's none intended (I merely used the same phrase as you). I think you just misinterpreted a few things in this thread - the OP was just pointing out he saw a very expensive M2 based on it having a lot of options (not saying those two things are necessarily synonymous - just happens to be the case with the car in question) - he wasn't saying it was a terrible value if you're into those add-ons (discussing price is not necessarily questioning value). So I believe you were off-topic from the get-go (no big deal ). Then you said I was discussing "lap times between exhaust" when in fact it was a[n admitted] sidebar (it happens - it's just an internet forum ) about lap times with aero add-ons; however, my last response to you - which is the subject of your reply here - was fully on topic, or at least the topic as you took it to be, but which wasn't really the OP's point.

If you don't believe me, just ask the OP - I'm pretty sure I read his intention correctly since he 'appreciated' a couple of my posts. Possibly he just doesn't want to argue, and neither do I - no offense intended here - cheers!

I agree this car is likely to sit for quite a long time for the reasons you state. In the meantime, I'm buying all 'commenters' on this thread a drink.

Pre modded. Expensive but if you have plans to do all those mods. Perfect ready to go.

I don’t know if the M Drivers Package counts since it is a fun day at the track. But I am jealous that you got to go.

It unlocks 168mph so that's technically an add-on option. Maybe only a portion of the $2500 should count.

I was just at my local dealer cause they got a M2 in stock that I wanted to look at. Before I ordered mine from elsewhere, I spoke with them and they had no allocations, so I was wondering the story behind the one they got in. Anyway, the CA told me that they got that M2 sent to them and they didn't have an allocation or an order they could customize. She also said it came directly from the MFG and not from another dealer. So maybe this "very expensive" BMW in this thread was the result of BMW sending a randomly spec'd car to the dealer. Doesn't answer the question of why cars come pre-spec'd with add-ons most people don't want to pay for, but might take the ownership of the question away from the dealer and on BMW itself.

For anyone wondering you should be able to get black kidney surrounds the 2 series for like $120 and just put the old slats in from your silver one. The hard part is just getting the grille out, not the slats.

Well it has been a couple of weeks now, and our LBB $69K M2 is still in stock. The dealer also has 6 other M2s in stock. Most of them are also loaded with M Performance parts.

To each his own. I have lots of M Performance parts and love them. The M Performance interior kit is my favorite.

What about the stock rear diffuser? Don’t you think it looks likecheap plastic with that matte texture? I’m thinking that would be the first thing i would like replaced.
