OP, you've had your F80 for some time now. Thinking about making the switch?

This is the V6 1LE. Think there may have been a different end result if they used the v8

These guys are the worst auto journalists on the planet. They said the car doesn't have MDM and that you can't disable throttle blipping.

WRONG! Get over your fear of the traction control button and you'll discover that you can indeed use MDM mode and also turn DSC off and disable throttle blipping.

Of course, if they were competent enough to do that, then they wouldn't need to use stunt drivers for the drifting portions of the show. Ever wonder why they blur the windows during those shots? It ain't Johnny Liebermann hanging the back end out, that's for sure.

The V6 Camaro seemed to do quite well. I expected the margin of victory to be greater for the M2.

A full second is actually relatively long given the length of the track.

What matters is not so much the length of the track, but the speed the cars are going. Two cars going roughly 15 mph across the line will be pretty darn close if one is one second ahead.

But if they are each going approximately 115 mph, they are travelling at 51m/s. At that speed, .1 of a second would be a 5.1 meter difference, which is 16 feet, 8 inches, or roughly one car length. A full second would therefore be about 10 car lengths. That would look like a yawning gap at a track...

On Ignition the M2 did 1:22 on the same track so this M2 had really worn tires.

Agree that the V8 makes this a different game. That being said, I wonder how many people actually cross shop these 2 cars.

Wondering if anyone rocking a look at me chevy would consider a BMW.

I would absolutely cross shop the SS 1LE with M2 and other than size, appearance, and interior, the Chevy would win.

The V6 though? Nah that's only for if you can't afford the V8. No other reason to go V6 on a Camaro.

Traction Control Off != MDM

I drive with DSC off when I'm at the track, but that's actually the time when I would want throttle blipping ON.

Around town, I can heal-toe like a master but on the track, when at the last moment you're taking the inside line in a corner and you're 3-wide trying to down-shift. At that moment, I wouldn't mind it if the car did the throttle blip for me.

The point is, to each his own, and BMW should have made a button to toggle it on and off without toggling other things on and off.

Read the manual before arguing please. In the M2 One-button press of DSC (traction control off) is MDM mode.

due to varying brake to throttle pedal height differences and depending on brake pedal travel to braking force progressivity, i find that heel-toeing is far easier on track when I am frequently deep into the brake.

it's difficult for me to regularly heel-toe on the street because i seldom brake that hard.

nevertheless, heel-toe isn't the end all be all IMHO. the end goal is prevent weight mis-distribution, which can still be achieved without heel-toeing.

I know a GTS class driver that wins regularly in his e46 m3 and he seldom heel-toes. fast is fast. period.

I remember your thread in the M3 section. Selling your GT3 already? What happened?

I respect the camaro because it is a ridiculously good performance car however it looks like a beefed up, meat head version of a Scion tC.
